Just picked up 33 willys glass project car (roller) from a guy retiring from hot rodding and having a hard time finding the glass rubber seals for the front, rear, and opera windows. Gotta be something out there. Googled the hell out of it and called a few places but to no avail. Guessing will have to get some universal seal?
Same here. Too bad the Model 99 never came to be. I think so. You'd have to go in knowing what the original (or at least close) seal profile(s) was(were), but I bet Metro Molded Rubber would have something by the foot which would work for you.
I'll bite. What was the Model 99 and why did it never come to be? EDIT: I couldn't wait. I Googled it and learned the 99 was a stretched, widened 77 with a six banger. Personally, I think it is not nearly as graceful as the 77. (The bankruptcy court killed the 99.)
Some useful links and suggestions for weatherstripping, channel run, dew wipes. etc. in this topic, which would likely apply to many '30s and '40s era vehicles: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/40s-glass-rubber.1290534/
I am also building a 33 Willys Model 77 Coupe. I am almost finished with it. My car is a Willys Unlimited body that I bought in 2003. It was on the back burner until 3 years ago when I really started to work on it full time. You did not say what brand body you have. Now to your glass problem. On my car I put the windshield in like a modern car, Bonded in with 3M Windshield Adhesive . I am making a polished frame for the outside so it will look stock. The quarter windows & backlight are bonded in from the inside with a painted garnish to finish the inside edge. Depending on how your body is made, you may be able to do the same with out using a rubber gasket. My car is chopped & I need all the glass area. Feel free to contact me if you have questions, Jerry from N. C.
What brand of 'glass body is it? Scott Rods ( https://www.scottrodscustom.com/body-packages/street-rod-packages/1933-willys-coupe )in Ohio builds a '33 Willys. Maybe they could offer some direction. Lynn
Never used them personally, but there is premier seals manufacturing in Akron, Ohio. Premier Seals Manufacturing | Die Cutting | Rubber Molding (premiersealsmfg.com)
The Model 77 doesn't use classic shaped window glass channel molding. In building my '35 coupe I used rubber strips about 5/8" wide and about 1/8" thick. This is what was on the windows when I tore down the car back in the day. I don't know about 'glass reproductions but my guess they are built to use the same system as the steel originals. Supposedly there were 3 model 99 Willys built. I heard years ago that someone in Maryland had one of the three. Over the years, I have had 3 model 99 headlight lenses and rims. If you want verification that the rims and lenses existed, contact Don Axlerod, hdlthqtrs@aol.com.
The body was from Heritage Hot Rods in Illinois. Steele didn't have anything. Couple other manufacturer's had a couple possibilities , but will know more when it's in the shop. I should be able to find something from all the help and answers i've gotten. Thanks to all.
