Folks Of Interest IMPORTANT WARNING FROM BILL'S AUTO WORKS

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bill's Auto Works, Jun 23, 2023.

  1. Hello Everyone,

This is URGENT...My email that I have had for my business for 30+ years (billsautoworks1@aol.com) has been HACKED & is being used to screw fellow car guys. I had a call from a gentleman just a few minutes ago asking me if I employed a Paul Mitchell with the phone number (770)731-8978 who was using my email address on USHIP. This gentleman booked a transport with him & is now out his money!

If you call that (770) number it routes you to a FAKE AOL recovery & restore number (which is how I originally scammed hacked)

PLEASE folks....I would NEVER have an accunt on USHIP, so that is NOT me & also PLEASE do NOT accept or respond to my billsautoworks1@aol.com email address for a week or so. I cannot view it or respond to it. AOL Fraud Dept is supposedly working on it

I have some suspicions as to who is behind it, but no proof.

I HAVE MADE MY REPUTATION WITH HONESTY & INTEGRITY & THIS BREAKS MY HEART THAT SOMEONE IS SOILING MY NAME. I AM TRULY SORRY TO ANYONE WHO GETS INCLUDED IN THE SCAM!

EVERYONE is welcome to call if they have any questions! (216)832-8697

    God Bless

Scammers suck. If they would put that energy into something beneficial there’s no telling what they could do. But no, the damn lowlifes want to screw everybody.

Hope you get it straightened out soon Bill.

  3. Bill, this same crap happened to me a few years ago and they were soliciting all my friends for cash to help my daughter who was involved in a accident, I didn't know anything until some of they contacts called me direct and ask how could they help, like you I had the account forever.

It's a PITA to change but you have a good reputation to worry about, do what you gotta do, people here know you and will back you 100%. HRP

Unfortunately, in today's world of instant and world wide communications, you will be pushing back at this brush fire for a long time. It is a shame that these lowlifes can take tools that have made our lives easier and corrupt them for their purposes. There is a special place in hell for someone who will besmirch a 30 year reputation.

  5. Bill, try to change the password for your email and see if that locks out the hacker (until you get hacked again).

  6. I hate thieves and scammers....Hope AOL can get it straightened out. They just totally re-vamped their e-mail and I hate it. Now they want you to pay to eliminate ads.

  7. It probably would have been that easy Phil, if it were not for the fact that I never changed my reset phone number with AOL when I got rid of my business phone (which was a landline) & now only have my cell. Now they cannot verify that it is me. Just spend ANOTHER hour on the phone with them & it turns out the woman I spent an hour on the phone with Wednesday did not properly forward the case to the fraud dept!

I am completely to blame as I was complacent, because in 30+ years of having that email, I had never had an issue before!

    God Bless

  8. \\Phil, I think the damage is already done and Bill would be better off distancing himself as far away from the hacked account as possible, I learned this first hand. HRP

Pitiful are we who don't have grandchildren in the home to do this internet never ending muck!

My wife is younger, still working...She is internet savvy, as she uses it daily at work. I have had some hackers get me for $850 one time, but wife Joey headed 'em off at the pass... PayPal was involved in the second one, ($1,000+) and happy to say both issues got handled, money returned (Whew!)
But cards re-issued and lost time, plus all the damned passwords... It was frustrating.

It may be difficult, but I'd be willing to bet that there are honest people out there who can track down these faceless jerks who prey on others. Maybe the computer manufacturers aren't concerned about finding out where these ass holes are as much as they are trying to prevent them from getting into the newest system they want to sell you. I say we get an honest hacker to go after the dishonest ones and when they are found, we get a rope and post the hanging on FB.

  12. UPDATE!

Both the Uship customer who called to let me know what was happening with the use of my email & myself called Uship reporting the criminal activity & they informed me that account was under investigation & since the customer paid with a credit card, he has disputed the charge with them.

For the time being (until my email is back in my control) P.M. or call me for Transportation Quotes!

    God bless

Not a good feeling to be violated. Especially for good people who have always maintained their trustworthy reputation.
    Good luck, Bill.

The outstanding reputation you have will get you through this. Be honest and open with anyone that gets stung by the prick that stole your email address. They will probably contact you and be in a fairly bad mood. Stay calm and explain the situation to them. This is not your fault. Most will understand. Hope you can get this cleared up as soon as possible.

Yes, my long time email got hacked too. They tried to get some of my contacts to send them money, but the first two the scammers contacted were close friends and called me right away, within minutes of the hack!
When I tried to log onto my email, the hacker had already changed my password. I contacted the email provider and they locked the account. As far as I can determine, the hacker only got to about 40 people off my contact list.

I could have gotten back into it, but it too was locked into an old landline. That landline number is the only way they have of knowing it really is me and they want to send a text to it for me to respond to.

The bottom line is, if you have a long standing email address, make sure you update the listed phone contact info to a phone you still have. Do it NOW!

The worst part of the whole deal is I've lost all my contact numbers. I can't remember all their email addresses to give them my new email.

  19. Thank you gentlemen for the support and the advice, I am happy to report that I am back in control of my email. It turns out he basically just wanted my company names reputation so he can screw people on you ship as they thought they were dealing with me. Too damn bad they don't spend more time working on their own reputation!

    God bless, bill

Great news. Hopefully there has been no damage done to your company reputation.

  22. I would look into a good password manager/generator since your email is for business. Something like Bitwarden and change you password frequently.

Unless Bill has 100% proof verified by the AOL Fraud Department or USHIP Fraud Department with prosecution who it is we are not going down that road.

Accusations that turn out to be wrong are just as wrong as hackers are.

So at this time I’m suggesting / asking Bill not post about anyone.

    Thank you.

  28. Cobbie,

I would never post it on the Forum anyway, but you are right unless they pursue it I will never know for sure. Obviously the name on uShip is an alias, as is the name of the person who I talked to on the phone the first time it started all this crap.
Just glad it is over and done with, because I am on a lap of the country and it's hard to put out dumpster fires while you're driving! LOL

    God bless, bill

  29. Hey Folks,

I am now back in control of my email address that I have had for decades! About 6 hours on the phone with AOL, Verizon & Uship got it all taken care of!!! Even though I would NEVER have an account on Uship, I have to say that they were very attentive & concerned about this issue & went way beyond what I expected to remove this criminal from their ranks!!!!!

I am just back from a 12 day, 9000 mile lap of the country transporting a bunch of members cars & while I tried to keep abreast of all the goings on...It is tough being on the road. I am staying in contact with ALL the above companies & if I have the chance....I WILL follow through with prosecution if the opportunity arises for me!!!

    God Bless
    Bill
