I was just perusing my May 1974 Rod & Custom and fell in love once again with this sweet Sedan Delivery from the Alexandria, Va. area owned by a Mr. Tommy Tylee. Interior by George Cox and paint by C&T Autobody in Alexandria. I know it's been almost 50 yrs., and sadly, Tom may not still be with us, but hopefully the car still exists somewhere. Anyone remember it or know of its' whereabouts? Thanks....Don. CCI06242023.jpg CCI06242023_0001.jpg

...Thanks Dean. Understandable as it was almost 50 years ago when it appeared in R&C. Where does time go?!

I don’t remember it but I know the name George Cox. Isn’t he a machinist? Is George Cox still around?

That car may still exist. I think I a guy in Fredericksburg owns it now. Gary, he ran Bigfoots speed in Fred for many years and had a sedan delivery just like that but he had painted it yellow in the 80s.

..Apparently the George Cox mentioned in the article did the interior, but who knows, he may have also been a machinist.

Ha! in '75 I was 10 years old. Sorry, I was busy building model kits, painting my Hot Wheels cars with a brush and stripping the fenders off my Murray Eliminator muscle bike. Don't remember that fine Chevy delivery.;)

...Thanks for the follow-up @19Eddy30. I know that Alexandria was a hot rodding hot bed particularly in the '60's and '70's.

  17. Don, I think @Nailhead Jason may be right. I remember a yellow sedan delivery running around in Fredericksburg when I lived in King George. Maybe Wayne at Wayne's Auto and chroming would know.

I hope nothing has happened to Oldracer. I know Dave from his days at Ford motor co. Super standup guy. I’ve always had a lot of respect for him!

Hey, never heard of this rod before but I'm glad you brought it up. It must be good to have gotten a full page in R&C. From the description it has all the attributes of a well thought out build and the result is a very nice ride. Thanks for showing it to us and I hope you can find it.

Hay Don, unfair of you dredging up old hot rods to challenge our wonky memories. I know George Cox the machinist, I believe he was in the Alexandria area back then, he's just built a 572ish for one of my guys. He's a talented guy and it wouldn't surprise me in the least he did the interior. He's one of those guys that will build an absolute killer car and just tuck it away, you might remember him, it was his Corvette and the 'Whoopie' car (Anglia) that crashed at Colonial Beach Raceway, he's since restored it and its tucked away.

  25. Article says he was 30 years old at that time. From Google, it appears Tommy is still in the Alexandria area. If his wife's name is Diane, that is most likely him.

..So, if Mr. Tylee is still with us he would be 79 or 80 yrs. old. Can't imagine he's on here, but it sure would be great to hear some of his stories about the Sedan Delivery and hot rodding in the Northern Virginia area back in those days. Thanks for the detective work @carcruse.

..Wow, great information, @oj. Do you ever see Mr. Cox? How old would he be now? Must still be capable of putting together a 572ci engine! I do remember hearing of the crash between a Corvette and the Whoopie car. Wow, how long ago was that?! Great information. Thanks for adding some clarification to the mystery. Sure hope the Sedan Delivery still survives and is still somewhere there in Virginia.

...I'm friends with Jack on FB. I'll have to reach out to him to see if he may remember the car or any of the guys mentioned in the article. Thanks again for the info.
