Hey, it's the eagerly anticipated Hot rod Races at Pendine Sands. Time to take a bit of time off from the endless weldathon that is the 100E. The Sedan is running good lets take a nice leisurely drive down to Pendine and then thrash the old girl mercilessly up the hallowed sand. Part 1: Friday: The drive down, with lots of nice scenery. Saturday: A look at the cars and a few runs in the Sedan. Look out for part 2 covering Sunday and Monday. This video is dedicated to Alexander Hackett.
There seems to be less and and less people I know as every year p***es, as the membership numbers get ever higher and higher.....you, Jim, Sarah and Melissa must be close to being first group running now! Love the Mk.1 Zephyr...... .......and that VR6 on triple SU's powered Landcrab in the public parking is hysterical. Just found a video on Youtube about it - what a sleeper
^^^^ I think the roll cage ruling turned a lot of the older racers off, it did me. Shame but it couldn't be helped "rules are rules"
Indeed. Its was a sad inevitability once people started taking it too seriously and the speeds kept going up after the first 2 or 3 events......which just attracted the attention of the elf n safety nanny's from outside VHRA and now leading to cars being built specifically for competing at Pendine rather than VHRA members having a chance for a days fun on the sand with their hot rod.
Enjoyed your video and now patiently waiting for Episode 2. Also as @X38 says why such high tire pressure ? I thought for sand that you ran it lower but that could be the soft stuff and not the water packed stuff. Would like to know.
I know about low pressure on soft sand and hard pressure for less rolling resistance, but when he made the comment it was on the road not far from home, which made me wonder.
I did wonder that myself. My mate that has done most Pendine's up to now in his '47 Plymouth, runs his tyres quite high on the sand, but we pump them up on the sand in the pits before first run, and then let the air out again, back to normal before driving off the beach. Not sure I'd run bias ply's at those pressures on the road, especially UK roads!
I watch Marts video on the Pendine Sands races every year and I need to add this to the bucket list! HRP
