Projects '61 Falcon Street/Strip Gasser Build

Long block? And I've been rolling sheets of wet or dry around a squeegee all these years?

 

I could never get anything straight with the block you have in the picture, not straight enough anyway. I used blocks made from oak up to 36” long, I used your block after I had the panel strait to soften the lines.

 

Yes, I have a couple homemade boards that are 30 inches long, and like you, I will run over the panels, usually by hand, to keep them looking a little less than a launch pad for the space shuttle. Sometimes things are actually too straight.

 

1/8" thick steel block plate was converted to midplate duty by welding on some ears. This bolts to brackets on the subframe.



A lower cowl trim will allow me to go from a 14" X 3" filter to 4" tall.



My next trick is to m***age a Shelby scoop to fit the hood.

 

The hood scoop required splitting at the flange, screwing down and then 'gl***ing over the joint. I'll rivet it in place after paint.

 

I decided to go with a Holley in-tank electric fuel pump. It requires a minimum 7.25" tank depth and wouldn't you know the stock tank is only 7" deep. I added a sump in the rear to remedy and of course I had to chop it up to fit it.




Maybe I'll paint the sump flat black so I can keep my sleeper status

 

I'm ****oning up the trunk. The Zolatone splatter paint sprayed OK with a 2.0 tip. 1 quart covered the trunk.

 

After much body work, I'm finally putting some color on it. I went with the original mint green.

What a great thread to read this morning. I saw one of these little g***er falcons back in my highschool days at a rental house. It was sort of abandoned, then one day it was gone. That was forty plus years ago, but made quite an impression. I joke that all the projects I go to look at are painted green, you do all that work and choose to paint it green! Again great thread, made my morning.

Love this Falcon Project. You're doing an excellent job. Love the color and although it is a favorite of mine, being a FORD guy I was leaning towards metallic blue or Wimbledon white. Way to shake it up.

 

Me, I always have liked that shade of metallic green, a friend had a Chevelle drag car painted just about the same color back in 1974.

 

Yeah I like it the more I look at it.

I got the shell painted yesterday. 14 hours of masking, prepping and spraying. I'm beat.

 

Yes sir, it's a lot of work keeping the colors separated, and I always push something apart just about the time I think I'm done masking...

Aligning the tilt hood and fenders is no fun, especially when your trying to avoid scratching paint.

 

Really like this one…such a different color choice, but it works so well..

 

Original colors to a specific model and era almost always look better than newer, "modern" colors.

 

My dad used to paint signs back in the day. After I showed him the paint photos, he asked if I wanted him to letter the car. Since this will mostly be a street car, I wasn't planning on a lot of lettering. For the sake of sentimentality (Dad isn't doing too well), I think I'll ask him to just paint a little lettering on the tail panel.
The idea on this build is a 60s style g***er. What do you think of the name "Georgia Cracker"? Is that too corny? Any better ideas with Georgia in the name?

and I love your color choice of Mint green!!
So I get this text from my daughter and her husband that they are out antique shopping and they found a pedal car. They ask me if I want them to pick it up for me. As soon as I saw the picture, I instantly thought of your Falcon!! Well, I had to have it because I have never seen a mint green pedal car and it was just like your Falcon.
I think I'll name it 'Mini- Falcon"
Anyways, keep up the great work on your Falcon!! I am going to leave Mini Falcon just as it is except I think the flower sticker might disappear.
