Low beams, high beams, parking lights...Check!

My license marker is not working. So, I get to cut the harness open and figure it out. The leads are like 30 gauge or finer, almost impossible to wire. That's probably where the issue lies.
    upload_2023-6-14_16-6-27.jpeg
The red indicator is for the parking light warning. Taking a break then back out to wire up the brakes and signals. They are mostly done just need to connect the fronts and plug in the harness clip. Nice seeing stuff come to life finally. This is one of my favorite things.

Not much to take pics of but I have turn signals and 4 ways to add to my brake lights.
Next up wire the dash cluster and install it. I think that will complete The electrical.
One thing I think I will change is the fog lights can only be turned on when the low beams are on. The Lows are on are a 20 amp protected circuit. @Crazy Steve will the combination of 2 fog lights and my low beams pull more than that 20 amp fuse can protect?

  3. As long as the total lamp wattage is no more than 200 watts you'll be fine. Typical halogen low beams are 55 watts, which means the fogs can't be more than 45 watts each. They're likely only 35 watts. The wattage should be on the lamps, but if it's not, check amperage; the low beams should draw a bit over 4.5 amps each, the fogs no more than about 3.75 each.

  4. You can add a headlight relay if you are pulling close to max on your switch or it's a NOS switch you want to keep for awhile.

Headlights are on a relay already. I may change the fogs to another circuit. It probably doesn’t really matter.

I will get some help from Mrs Bandit Billy tonight on that pic request. I wasn't to see it as well! I tried pushing the brake pedal with a broomstick but that wasn't exactly a kodak moment.

I wired the last idiot light (the e-brake warning) and the reverse light. I forgot to change out the 6 volt bulb in that Yankee reverse light and it didn't last very long. A few years ago, I shared a photo of the black 40 style knobs I am using and how I tried to clean the grooves on them. That didn't work too well. Today, however, it went better. I chucked them up in my vertical lathe and used a file on them.
    upload_2023-6-23_14-30-50.jpeg
This is what I was after. I wanted them black but with a bit of detail.

Still trying to get the gauge cluster wired, it is the last piece of the electrical jig saw puzzle.

Here you go. And yes, my lens is not in there straight. Until the bed floor is done it will likely stay that way!

And I closed the bay door so I could see the tag light in the dark.
    upload_2023-6-24_19-29-25.jpeg
I was close to done wiring today, that is until I realized that the instructions call for a momentary switch connected to the cluster...which I did not get in the box with the gauges. Oh well, Amazon tomorrow on my doorstep. $6.00 for 2 switches delivered for free. Maybe I can check the wiring off the to do list tomorrow.

I have a roll of tape waiting for the test stripes, but first I have to fit that hood and paint it. There is a lot of down time doing body and paint so I figure I will work on the bed staining simultaneously.

I haven't found the right wood color yet. I was thinking driftwood originally, but Mrs BB likes a little brown in it, maybe a walnut but I may stain them black first and wipe them down, then apply the walnut. I have to some more test strips.

First things first it needs an alignment and the AC charged. Then it can get out of the garage a bit.

Gauge cluster installed and I think everything in it is working. Cl***ic Instruments includes the high beam and turn indicators inside the cluster which I like. They also rebuilt my wind-up clock to match the gauges and converted it to electric. Unfortunately, while installing the panel I managed to pull loose the ignition switch feed. It is hard to access (which is why I installed it first), this won't be fun.

WIRING DONE! I bought a neat little borescope tool on Amazon last night, it was on my porch in the morning. It is an iphone accessory. It has 7 LEDS around the camera, a dimmer on the cord and a shutter ****on on the cord to take pics.
$25 dollars, delivered over night!. Everyone should own one! Long cord, plug it into your phone and it automatically brings up the app you need to install (free on the app store). Stupid easy.

Good photo quality and you can use it on your ipad for bigger scenes. This is a shot of the back of the ignition switch and the missing feed. And you can see someone forgot to crimp the terminal! Swine electrician!
    upload_2023-6-28_15-37-23.jpeg
Here is the tool. I almost paid $400 for a color screen borescope a couple years ago.
    upload_2023-6-28_15-40-5.jpeg
That made this job easy peasy. After that I cleaned up the under dash area, put the Crestliner wheel back on and gave the horns a blast to signal the completion of this phase of the build. Glad to have this behind me.

I bolted on the front fender braces that I found on a shelf while I was looking for something else, so I bolted them on before I forgot about them again.
    upload_2023-6-28_18-22-12.jpeg
And I tucked the front fender wiring out of the way. I secured the harness to the back side of the grille bolts. I probably should cover those or do guys think it will be okay tucked up there out of the way? It's not going off road, just a pavement princess.

Thank you sir! They were pretty easy to customize once I thought of turning them on the drill press. It is a different dash than other 40/41 PU's and I like that. I almost put a p***enger car dash in it but I am glad I didn't now that it is going together. How is your truck coming?

    Stalled.
    Been Bogged down with:
    1. Honey Do Driveway extension and new deck project. Finished today. Hallelujah!:D
    2. Wasted time ****ing around with 283 for 40 coupe, thinking that would be quick and easy. Has a knock!
    3. Started over with new 350 that I won. Almost ready to switch out blown up flathead.
    4. Haven’t touched it since I switched out the seat.
Disappointing to say the least. :(

I had a little time today for a fast project. Last week I added sun visors inside the pickup, and I didn't care for the way they bobbled about in the center. And that is just sitting in the garage, can't imagine driving it like that. So, I came up with a plan to anchor them in the middle. I had a stainless bracket that I cut off the taillights on the roadster when I remounted them which fit under the bead in the center of the header. I had to bend it in the center to fit the V in the header panel, drill and countersink mounting holes. The existing bolt holes in the tail light bracket were just the right size to slip a chunk of .250 stainless rod that I bought on amazon. First, I had to put a sharp 90 in the rods with my press and then I welded them in place from the back of the bracket. A little time on the polishing wheel and a quick install.
    upload_2023-7-1_15-37-19.jpeg
    Looks like a stock piece.
    upload_2023-7-1_15-38-1.jpeg
Same screws that I used on the other visor mounts.
    upload_2023-7-1_15-39-8.jpeg
I had filled the factory dimples where the sun visors were supposed to mount so I could move them down a bit on the header panel, that way they could be folded completely up when not in use. The only thing they won't do now is pivot to the side, but I can live with that.

Somewhere I have a clip-on registration holder, it'll turn up sooner or later.

    Great mod!!
Filing that one away (plagiarism) for down the road.
Your truck is worthy of power visors!
I’ll leave you to figure that out.

I notice a lot of trucks don't have visors, but I need a place for the door opener and my sungl***es! Maybe a mirror to check my makeup. Add it your file! I have said it before, the HAMB is like Etsy for car guys.

Nice visor addition...you're getting close to the end.
I've got to ask, what's the next project?...you're going to have some free time.

I need to get started on the bed floor. I picked up some oak to chop up and make test strips so we can come up with a wood color. Getting that wood sanded, stained and varnished is a big job and next up I think.

My front-end alignment is out till the 28th of July so I have some time. I also have top re-engineer my sill plates. They have a 1/4 round bead at the top and that bead is striking the doors. @Pist-n-Broke has an idea that may work to roll that bead out and sharpen the 90 degree bend at the top. If that doesn't work, I will just use these as patterns and make a new set from scratch. If I make a pair I was thinking about countersinking a Ford oval into them, sort of like the body by fisher tags on a chevy. Hmmm, body by Bandit!
