Anyone have any 54 bel air pics? I'd Like to see them. Were there any significant changes between 6 and 8cyl for body changes? Meaning trim or interior? Didn't know if there was any way of telling the difference by looking at them. Thanks. Craig.
Chevrolet didn't have an 8 cylinder in '54. Are you thinkin' '55? If so, the V8 had small emblems on the rear fenders under the tailights Mutt
Thanks guys. Hi Mutt, I didn't know they didn't have v8s in 54 bel airs. I guess it is a 235 ci? are the motors flathead and what about horsepower rating. Thanks 50chevy for the cool photos.
Hello, oldskoolin. In '54, Chevrolet had (2) 235 6 cylinder motors for the Bel Air. One was for the standard shift, and rated at 115 hp/ 200lbft of torque. The powerglide (automatic transmission) version was 125hp/ 204lbft of torque. They were overhead valve. Mutt
not to be rude, oldskoolin, but you really should use the "search" option...54s have been discussed NUMEROUS times. creepy
Thanks for the tech info Mutt. Yeah, sorry I should've researched the site alittle more. Thanks bigtony for the site. Craig.
Hi jensen. I noticed on some 54s it has this grill and some it has less teeth. Was there a certain year that was supposed to have this many teeth?
If I'm not mistaken, the '54 'vette had more than 5 teeth, but like someone else mentioned- if it has more than 5 it's not stock. Just a side note. I bought my '54 2 dr. sedan 14 years ago (before everyone wanted the "Jesse James car"). I can't believe how much they've gained in popularity. Everyone must be running out of tri-5 Chevies to build. Bought time to sell it and move on to something obscure again. Maybe a 40's Mopar this time.
ive got a 50tree, its basically the same minus the grill and tailights and dash emblem, but stickin a v8 is no easy task, im gonna hopefully be doin my swap someonetime soon with a SBC 350/350, but the body mounts on the firewall have to be notched or completely taken away, and fresh air ducts cut away.
I've Always Loved The '53,'54's. (even Before Jesse's Car). They Look So Wide When They Are Lowered. THE BLACK ONE WITH THE RED TOP IS MY FAVORITE.
People watch tooo much T.V., '53 and '54 Chevys have almost reached 'Merc' status. I'm currrently building another '54 Chevy for Jesus Villalobos 'Whatcha', he sold his last year and now were remaking it. That was probably my favorite 'Chevy' kustom, besides the '54 Cole and Cory built for Ness. Even Jesus said that ever since 'JJ's Chevy, the price of these things have literally doubled, and parts are a bitch. I have seen so many clones and copys of that thing..it's sad...,have you ever looked at the chop on that thing? It sucks, and what happened on the other one? No bumper? tinted windows? whats up there? It just goes to show that some people follow what they see, even if porportion is off a mile. Come on people, pick a better false idol.
I bought my 53 Hardtop about 7 years ago, and yeah, ever since they gained poularity, the prices have SKYROCKETED. I'm waiting a few years and sell the thing to some yuppie. Every time I drive it, someone offers to buy it.
Here is my 54, and when i saw JJ 54 i was like damn! it looked different from other custom i have seen, my first choice was a 50 Merc, but I was pretty sure i was not going to find one and even if i did i would take me a long time to get on the road.. I wanted something i could get on the road soon. So what if i have a JJ clone car, It's mine and I Love working on it and Will love cruising it...
Hate to hear that they are getting expensive. I've been wanting one for a few years now, but have never stepped up to the plate.
