I’m having trouble finding br*** fittings to finish the plumbing for copper fuel lines for my flathead, I just need two 1/4 flare to ford nut (1/2 20) fittings, anyone know a source or have a part number?

upload_2023-6-28_23-30-23.jpeg I guess I should have mentioned that the fittings are br*** for copper tube, I have a number of the flare nuts as pictured, I need two of the fittings to the left that are ford nut (1/2 20) and 1/4 flare, the one I pictured is 1/4 NPT to 1/4 flare… Thanks!

  4. Try a refrigeration supplies. Looks like a standard 45 degree flare fitting, commonly used in air-conditioning and refrigeration.

why do you want copper fuel lines ?

  6. McMaster-Carr, we use fittings like that on air brake plumbing on heavy duty trucks. Locally, there is an industrial supply house called Superior Fastener that we use at work.

Looking at McMaster-Carr… great listings, thanks! Same problem I’ve found everywhere else, the 1/4 45degree flare is pretty common, the 1/2 20 end that would go into the carb is not… that’s what’s really hanging me up, the carb end.

Another of those "Ford exclusivity" parts ! You had to buy it from ford ! Is the 1/2-20 part a straight cut thread or tapered ?

Probably would take 15 minutes to turn one out on your lathe; times 2 - 30 minutes.

I dug through my fitting drawer and found a 5/16 flare nut. It screws right on to the 1/2-20 fittings that I have, can you find a union that is 1/4x5/16???

they say copper lines will work harden and break. A previous owner ran copper from the gas tank to the carbs on my 1939 Ford that I drove daily for 17 years thru 4 states. It didnt break but very fine copper flakes continuously filled my gas filter. I had to stop on the side of the road many times to blow out the filter so I could continue. I replaced the copper with 3/8 stainless and no more problems.

If I only had a lathe and the knowledge on how to use it… there’s plenty of material in a couple of the fittings I have to turn them down, just don’t have the means to.

IMG_4931.jpeg I found 1/2 straight to 3/8 jic male. Common fitting at your local hydraulic hose shop. You could always bag copper and go jic fittings. Very cost efficient

That one’s so close, not sure about the 5/16 thread on the carb side, all of my research says it’s 1/2 20….tried a 5/16, wouldn’t thread into the carb… upload_2023-6-29_22-33-46.png This one is close except it’s 37 degree, not 45!

    Thanks but that’s a number -6AN - need 1/4 45 degree flare to 1/2 20 (ford or stromberg).

The 5/16 refers to the tubing size , the thread size is what your after , that I " think" is 1/2-20

Thanks again, I’d tried a 5/16 as shown, it doesn’t fit upload_2023-6-30_18-0-14.jpeg it’s really close but just large enough and it must be like 18 instead of 20… the fitting above fits perfectly but isn’t 1/4 flare

This is a flare nut for a 5/16 and it is 1/2-20 I show it here screwed onto a stromberg fuel fitting the picture you’re showing above looks like a pipe thread fitting to me 1C265E69-7408-40E7-9CFD-6B5571EEE6D9.jpeg

Ok, I found the female part of the 5/16 flare this is the same nut I had screwed onto the stromberg fuel fitting

Here’s that fitting screwed into a stromberg 97 inlet ( needle seat) fitting. It is 1/2-20 1AA52E17-12E5-453B-AE39-1EAB79BEE534.jpeg B5D9D2C8-CD73-4987-B057-EE5FF2372DA1.jpeg

That’s the frustrating point about this whole thing, the 5/16 flares that I have will not thread into the carb.

5/16 flare… as per Strombergs site the regular 97 needs 1/4, the big 97, 5/16 so… I picked up some 5/16 to go from the mechanical pump to the distribution block that is part of my manifold, wanted to go 1/4 from the block to the carbs… everything is good except for these last fittings at the carbs. I have 5/16 45degree flare fittings (both male and female), and the males definitely do not thread into the carbs, the fittings I showed were a 1/2 2o that I pulled off a carb and a 5/16 flare to 1/4 NPT that was an extra…the 1/2 20 will thread into the female 5/16 flare nut but the 5/16 male flare will not thread into the carb.
