    Hello,

It might be that my liking for drawing has limits. Perspective of any car gets harder as old hot rods are concerned. In looking at various photos of old hot rods I like and would love to have in a large multiple garage compound, it all remains on a drawing pad and a external hard drive for posterity. For who’s posterity? Hopefully 50 years down the road, our granddaughter’s family will want to see what her grandfather used to do in his spare time, once the hot rodding/surfing/sailing stages were waning due to our dreaded aging process.

As a little kid, seeing my first custom lowered rake 56 Ford truck with the “stuff” of the day was eye opening to say the least. In a field of normal cars, this is what stood out everyday we walked by the truck sitting out in front of the owner’s shop. That left a lasting impression and all of these young kid days was spent doing and thinking about playing around and cars in general.

As far as a 1932 Ford is concerned, my eye just does not allow my drawings to look like what I am seeing on photos or files of old hot rods. Perspective comes in all sorts and my eye and hand just don’t coordinate together for a 32 Ford. Actually, all drawings are off a little bit here and a lot there. But, a 32 Ford, which was once the epitome of hot rod desires, now has a difficult time on my drawing board. Erasures and redesigns are the norm and it is becoming difficult, but still enjoyable to be in the chase to the final completion, or at least what I think is a final drawing.

The Alan DeArmond 1932 5 window coupe has the style, the look and design of a cool 50s-60s style hot rod/drag racer. It is the stance, but not just that. Somehow, it is different than most finished, painted, custom wheel, chromed version that we see today in photos all over the place.

But, this coupe would not get a second look when approaching a line up of modern day cars in all sorts of custom paint, and looks that get the nod over a historic look from the early days. Unless, of course the sound coming from a high performance motor makes everyone “crink their necks” to see what is approaching.
upload_2023-6-30_4-26-34.png Does a painted finished chopped, lowered rake coupe get nods or does the red primer version that looks like it came right out of a Westside of Long Beach backyard?

  5. I was saddened by the news of the passing of a great artist yesterday. Peter Vincent was a master with his photography, not to mention, a very nice guy. Rest in Peace Peter, you will be missed…

  6. I am no artist, but like history and line drawings. I submit for your consideration this illustration from a 1919 Dykes manual. To me this is industrial art. 6C105759-C6B6-42A4-947F-6C28C78AA3EF.jpeg

For 70 years, one drawer in my fathers machinist cabinet contained 2 red tail light lenses ( glass ) with blue dots ( glass ) for a 39 Chevy. My father was a Ford guy so I don’t know the whole story. I gave then to a HAMBer Jason Honeycutt for his 39 Chevy. He took this picture but I consider it 70 year old art.

Happy almost 4th of July & FAS to you all.
This is a piece I did back in 1982, for my Mom's Birthday.
    I really loved that old 1955 I.H.C. S-110.
I purposely left my feet out the drawing, purely as an implied joke, to illustrate that at that point in my life, financially I wasn't on my feet, just quite yet!
Welcome back to @57 Corvette ~ Bob , always great to see your contributions!

    Hey @chryslerfan55
Thanks for posting that cool old Dave Bell poster, seeing Butch Leonard's name on it and the drawing of him in the Buick skylark convertible, really made me smile!
I am one of the few here that remember "ACME INNER-CITY FREIGHT".
    Thanks from Dennis.

  25. Welcome back, Bob. that is great art, what a picture!

  26. You’re welcome. I too remember ACME INNER CITY FREIGHT. The first car club I ever joined used one of their cube vans as a transport vehicle for their show displays and such. Good times.
