Yes, Dupont and GM were tied at the hip. GM pioneered the use of Dupont acrylic lacquer, and it was the finish used on all GM cars into the early '80's. This does not apply to pickup trucks.
Dupont was heavily invested in GM until the Supreme Court ordered Dupont to sell it's stock! https://www.politico.com/story/2018...-divest-itself-of-gm-stock-june-3-1957-615544
Okay Maybe the last color, chalked out to a dull looking light color All my 5 yr old mind was sure of is that the former owner loved seegars. Very relaxing ride. Also I had best mention that those days dad was flipping cars they come they go
I asked at AACA library today. And without looking it up they thought all Buicks were white in about '06 or '08. What do I win.
Great discussion. Very apropos to research I'm doing on a 1963 southern Calif. car. Need to confirm that paint code, ICI M073-TD-68970, was bright pearl white. Maybe the AACA people know?
The 1953 Studebaker in my avatar shows white on the registration....it had been shot in primer at some point before i bought it to hide the many defects in the body I did find a little white in the door jambs but that was it. As I look back I don't remember any white cars in my youth (I'll be 80 on my next birthday)
Thought American "Racing" colours were white and blue. All the Briggs Cunningham cars, and many other teams from the early 50's were white. Interesting conversation.
