    Simple envy,
SBC engines are very easy and can perform extremely well without breaking your bank account.
    Their small in size,
    light and
will perform with the big boys for way less money

Biggest problem is there are so many rods withem that it’s boring

I personally will not have one cause
I guess I just can’t go along with the crowd.

    I'm with you!

I gotta Buick in a Mercury anda Chrysler Hemi in a Plymouth.

Good thing that I got rid of that Chevy-powered Model A with the Chevy after 7 El Mirage and Bonneville records -- what were we thinking?

its 2023. The car is 61 years old. Everyone needs to start getting over it when people who were born after the malaise era don’t immediately recognize the make and model of their one-year only vehicle. They also haven’t put the year model on license plates in many decades, so you can’t expect people who have never known about that to associate the “62” on your plate with the year model of your car.

Never said you were a "Dick". I would give my left nut, (no kidding I would), to have a nice, hot rod or custom. Because of my life circumstances and health issues, that isn't possible.(I'm fine;)) I love old cars. I come on here to learn and appreciate all the cars and the hard work guys share here. Then I read threads like this one and I wish I had your "problems". Some dork saying the wrong thing about my car. Brian, your cars/truck and camper are freaking cool! I've always liked that '36 you built. If I offended you, I'm sorry. Enjoy the hobby and your cars.

The guy that asked about the year of the car was easily in his 60's, so yes, he grew up when year plates were a thing here. And my plate says 1962, not 62. Oh, and I was born after the malaise era.

The other one wasn't just the Caddy comment, it was to stop me from leaving the parking lot and have absolutely no clue what he was looking at or curious about. Watching me drive out of the parking lot would have accomplished just as much for both of us.

I've had people deliberately lay on their horn in traffic to distract me from driving to give me a thumbs up. People are dolts around classic cars, sometimes.

The point wasn't that people didn't know, it's that they don't use any critical thinking before opening their mouth.

At the end of the day glass car is just as much fun to drive as a glass car.

Why don't you tow the camper with ranch wagon?

  11. Sometimes people will ask a question so it looks like they are "in with the kids" to their mates. They could ask you "what brand of car is that?" and you could tell them it's actually a bag of oranges, they will just say "cool" and keep walking because what you say doesn't sink in any way. I have plenty of time for normal people with dumb questions (like I would ask at an event I know nothing about), but when a mouth breathing Knuckle dragger starts with me, he gets an extra serve of stupidpidity.

I'm happy when anyone shows interest. I get the usual questions, what year? is it real? did you build it? is it fast? Fast enough to scare me and you! I got an interesting one last week.
Putting gas in the Deuce, an older guy, probably my age. asked me what kind of mileage it gets? Hmm, I've never thought about that.
It's all good except when parents let their out of control kids climb all over the cars!

I'd rather these talks go on here amongst our friends. We all have to vent now n then and best with our own. It's a fact, people are rude, silly, stupid, disrespectful, judgemental, and in fact a whole paragraph of shit that's forum taboo. Let's look at the brite side, maybe we can gather new "material" to snap back when waves of dumb occasionally crash upon our shores. Lemonade from lemons, right?

Guy I know has a weekend fun car, a well known model to be replicated in fiberglass. I spoke to him the first time about it and he brought up that it's 'glass; I told him that it's not a kit car, it's a tribute to the original. I asked if he enjoys driving it, and really that's all that matters. I guess you can enjoy polishing it and looking at it too.

I try not to tire of answering the same question over and over but if you don't want questions go buy a new Chevy or Kia and drive in anonymity. Yes, it says on the front who made my car but it doesn't say when, nor the model (at least, not in words).

I look at it this way. If you don't want people looking at your wife's chest, suggest perhaps wearing a shirt without words on. Same goes for tattoos. If you want to do something different and then take it out in public, expect the entire collective to offer their opinion.

Read my post above about kids playing with my car in the parking lot at work, while their parents watched.

I'd get "is that a real one" all the time in my 28 Model A Special Coupe.
I would occasionally reply that if you knew anything then you'd know nobody makes a fiberglass version of this car. Most of the time they'd just get my death stare.

I agree with you in that situation, but asking "stupid" questions , as others posted, should not be taken as a personnel attack. All I'm saying is, answering nicely promotes the hobby, while having an attitude certainly detracts...

If you follow the theme of the quotes above, it might be that many take offense when none is intended.........because the person asks a less than knowledgeable question in an attempt to start a conversation....and perhaps learn something in the process. It never hurts to be courteous and try to help someone........even if they are intentionally trying to be a "dick". Its kinda like holding a door for someone and they don't smile, nod or maybe say "thanks", you know that you still did the right thing and should feel good about it. I have pulled 2 different guys vehicles out of a ditch down the road from me with my tractor. One just the other day. Neither offered me anything for my trouble (and I wouldn't have taken it) but neither bothered to thank me either. Still I know I did the right thing, so I'll probably help the next guy too. Its really only about what kind of person each of us wants to be....not what someone else is.

As for the "firetruck" question, I think it has to do with "mass" or apparent mass of the Diamond T coupled with the red color and large chrome grille
. Its a beautiful truck and I have always liked the Diamond T's look............but I can also see that someone might relate it to once being a firetruck.......no offense intended.

As for the fiberglass questions.....maybe someone is interested in building a hot rod and just wants first hand information, or has a buddy thats thinking about one. Personally I bought a steel body..........which made me realize that fiberglass bodies have a lot going for them. Asking if its fiberglass is not necessarily a negative......A lot of people don't have the money or skill or tools to do a steel car but just might attempt a fiberglass build if encouraged.
My suggestion is to treat people like you would like to be treated when you ask a question .........whether its car related or anything else.:)

And Ed "Big Daddy" Roth combined fiberglass and imagination to make the original "Rat" rods.

I grew up with an old man who was a history teacher and he had a couple sayings that have stuck with me.
    1. There’s no stupid questions. Only stupid answers.
    And
    2. Ignorance can be cured….stupidity is forever.
He didn’t invent them, but he sure drilled them into me.
    Happy Canada Day folks.
And sorry for the forest fire smoke……

The Human race is full of stupid people, regardless of age. who are attracted to unusual, and shiny objects. Even an introvert like me risks interaction when driving my classic. Have fun with your responses, double entendres politely given are more fun, and "What else would it be" or "sure is, you really know your cars" gets rid of idiots quick. And sometimes the Idiots are truly interested, but not knowledgeable.

I really didn't think my first response, "That's an odd question to ask." was particularly rude. It merely lead to him asking what he really wanted to know. Then I told him the truth, some "real" Model A parts were used, some weren't original, he should be able to look and figure out the difference.

As the owner of a cobra replica, thats the most common question I get. I usually politely explain what it is, but every great once in awhile ..... its the way they ask, and who they appear to be, I'm not about to pop anyone's dream of seeing "a real one", so I don't answer and grin slightly, yes I know, I'm a bad person........lol

I was at a gas station filling up my Crosley. A guy that looked to be somewhere in his 60's came stomping up and asked "what do you get for gas milage?". I replied so far just about 30. Belligerently he yelled at me "I thought they did better than that!" So he knew enough to be dangerous. I shrugged my shoulders and said, this is Connecticut, don't have any mid west plains here. He scowled at me and went stomping off, a little show for all the other gas pumpers I guess.
