not sure if this is the right spot..new here. I have an old school 30 Ford with an old, but rebuilt 350.9000 miles on rebuild, but done when the car was built. The car was built over 20 years ago and still runds and looks good, however it is a driver. I have developed a squeel in the engine. Took the belt off to check if it was the water pump or alternator and that wasn't the problem. also not coming from the flex plate rubbing. My next thought is the harmonic balancer, but wanted to get a few opinions before I started taking the front apart. appreciate any help.....
Besides the belts and pulleys themselves sometimes the shafts and bushings can get noisy. Try some kind of spray lube as a quick check..... but watch out for moving parts when the engine is running.
I've seen front seals squeak. Try spraying some WD40 or the like on the front seal/balancer area. Also check to see if the PCV is working if it has one. Could be sucking the seal in if the PCV inlet is blocked. Although, most of the time they leak at all seals if that happens.
Can you take a video with sound, then post it up? My understanding is put it on YouTube, the post the link here.
since we can't hear it we can only guess, I have heard cracked automatic flywheels that made kind of a squeaky rattle noise....
Been a while since I posted about my squeeky 350. Talked to a buchh of guys and got everything from a bad bearing to flexplate . Tookthanks for al your advice, but as I recall exhaust l it to these two old guys and in 5 minutes they found my problem....collector gaskets were bad. Never would have thought that, but $25.00 solved my problem. Thanks for all your replys and as I recall an exhaust leak was mentioned.
