I’m going to have new coil spring made for the front of my ’49 and am considering either Coil Spring Specialties or Eaton to make them. Am looking for recommendations for or against either one of them. Thanks for any input.
I have Eaton springs on the front of my 37. Has a M2 front suspension, and SBC. Came to me with cut coils, a bunch of rubber lift spacers, and riding about 2” too high with harsh ride because the springs were close to solid objects with all that rubber in there. Called, talked to tech guy, let him know what I had and what I was trying to accomplish, and he guessed on the spring to send. New springs in, no BS spacers, springs actually work now, and dropped the front about 2”, right where I wanted it. I suspect that this would be easier if you know what you have, it is unmodified, and you know what you want. Might also be cheaper if they have something in the shelf vs. having custom springs wound. Call Eaton and talk to their tech guys. See what they can do. I know nothing of Coil Spring Specialties.
I have a downloaded Moog spring catalog that I use quite a bit. It also pays to know how to calculate a spring rate.
