When I stand back and look at my 49 Buick it looks like it is missing something. Like too much blue. Should I add pin striping? or two tone it? It just looks like too much blue. 49 Buick DS wires.jpg

  2. I know you didn’t ask about wheels, but I think that car needs wide whites and full wheels covers, like late 40s Caddy sombreos.

Looks to me like the old trap of using a modernish, bright color on an older vehicle.
It can be somewhat overpowering, especially on a larger car. The paint becomes the primary focus instead of the chromework and wheels. Just the way I see it.....

I vote for the wide whites and sombreros. It’s a pretty color of blue wouldn’t change or add any paint work

  7. I don't believe wide whites are the answer for all cars, but yours, I have to agree with the others...wide whites, and full wheel covers of your choice.
    Nice car!

I`d add wide whites and keep the wires. Lower the rear a bit. Leave the front height as is. IMG_0221.jpeg

I’d cut some 3” donuts out of butcher paper and tape em on if nobody photoshops it for you. Tape them on and stand back. Might consider an emblem or paint in the center of the knock off cap. Something to draw you eye down a bit.

Real wides and classy caps are the solution like said above, but mock it up before you spend the $’s. I have to see things, I don’t “imagine” them well.

The blue is just too bright.

maybe get someone to photoshop different colors of paint on the roof? silver, lighter blue, etc.

It's a beautiful, sexy car, but I agree with all who mentioned changing to whitewalls.

  16. Yep wide whites, and "I am unanimous in that."

Just a little tribute to the late Mollie Sugden.

Get some cheap latex paint and paint the whites on to see if you like it. After a day or two power wash it off...

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with it. Beautiful car, tasteful mods.

Well I thought the same as some others. First thing wide white bias ply (or look alikes) and full wheel covers. I also feel like the rear end should come down a little bit more for a motor boat kind of stance. Not knocking ya, its a beautiful ride ! I think a few subtle changes and you'll have a real stand out mild Kustom. This would be a good one to add to the photo shop thread and try some different ideas.

  22. Starting to sound like a broken record, but I gotta agree with the wide whites.

Send themoose a conversation he is one heck of a nice guy and a ace at photo shop, ask him if he would add wide whites to the picture. HRP

I’m not a big fan of whitewalls, but I think a medium wide set would set it off, something between the wide 3” and the little 1/2”, maybe a 2”. As to two tone, a lighter silver blue below the chrome trim would break it up nicely. I’d keep the wires, they’re classy.

Is it just me? Look down the side & it looks like it is missing one more coat of paint to be complete.
Maybe it is just lighting. ..... I have a old John Deere tractor I painted looks the same way ... light on the paint....

    Hey @BJR
I really like the blue paint job, just the way it is.

Wire wheels are classy, but they are not nessesarily visually appealing on certain cars, plus they are a pain in the ass to keep clean and bright!

I am 50/50 on the element of big fat white sidewalls, on your car.

That being said, to my eye, a set of either brushed or polished MOON disc's wheel covers would look very cool with the current black wall tires!

    IMHO.

If not MOON disc wheel covers, then Cadillac sombreros for sure.

I like the narrow whitewall idea best, I personally might even go with redlines. Ixnay on the pinstripes, maybe something front and/or rear, but not on the sides.

  28. I don't hate the wires…some medium whites…Maybe some white tuck and roll inner fender panels…all in all a pretty damn nice car
