That's the ticket! Looking good! What are your plans for wheels/tyres? 21's look good, but so do the other options
Looks great... You may need to up your battery terminal size as the stock 12v junk just doesnt have enough current capacity for 6v. I am now running 2/0 welding cable for my battery leads to the starter and ground and fixed my slow start issue.
Loddon is a small town in Norfolk in the UK. Loddon Engineering used to build industrial engines from Ford engines at best guess. The manifold is set up for an updraft carb originally. The removable plate covers a chamber that would have preheated the incoming charge so the engine could run on paraffin when warm. Another friend of mine had the same manifold and blanked off the lower inlet, machined the top for a flat plate, to adapt a pair of Landrover single choke Zeniths. I put Craig in contact with him, and he copied the same setup.
Got a little done today - fabbed a spacer for column mount so it can be moved off the gas tank and cut off the running board mounts - need to go back at some point and grind off the riveted sections but that is work for another day. Also upgraded ammeter to 30 amp version.
Thanks Metalhesd140 and ModelAMitch. Got to work today on the steering box - it was leaking like crazy - would not hold 600 weight for more than a couple days so dug in to see what was wrong - plenty it turns out - no gasket or thrust washer and also no eccentric sleeve or stud (but the cone was there - go figure…). Back to waiting on parts…
Picked up the ceramic coated exhaust and collector today - looking forward to getting them installed. Had bought a vintage Cragar intake to go with it but did not realize it had oversized ports - shifting plans to run a repro Burns for now.
Made some progress today on tearing down the front brakes - old grease was hard as a rock and bearings were in pretty rough shape. Am planning to drop wheels, steering and brake components off at the powder coater after the holiday.
Outback - I think it is the photo - but am planning to run 32 spindles to go with the 32 axle I am going to use. This photo shows the threads a bit more clearly.
Great progress so far. Good work, enjoying the details. Thanks for posting it up. Love the simplicity of a banger roadster. Gotta figure everything under the sun has been done. Has anybody messed with extending the aprons? I like the look with them, might like it even more with longer ones.
I've enjoyed following along with this thread, great stuff here! Why the relocation of the steering wheel support? Thanks, keep it up!
But it was FIRST PLACE prize winner at the Nation Model A meet in 1985... Looking good. I like mechanical brakes and cast iron drums...I run them on two of my banger powered cars... The juice brake one that I have seems to always have master cylinder or slave cylinder leaks... I'll try to snap some shots of my wheel tire combo that is the same as you are thinking... Carry on
Reverse eye on the front spring with three upper leafs moved to the bottom and a spacer. The one that came out had 10 leafs. I am running the Houdale shocks and shortened the links. This car has a Mitchell driveline OD and a Mitchell converted Model A gear box that gives you syncro second and third....a pricy solution and I wouldn't do it again. The other banger powered cars have 5 speeds...one closed driveline that uses a Jeep NWC T-5 and the other uses a TK-5 that was used in the '84 to '87 Bronco, Ranger, Aerostar It is open drive to a Ford 8".... Carry on
34 5W Paul - Thx - the longer aprons are an interesting thought - not sure I am skilled enough on the metalworking side to pull it off but hoping someone sees it and gives it a shot. ModelAMitch - Thx for the encouragement - moving the steering support to the dash helps alleviate stress and potential cracking on the gas tank which is where the 29 original steering support is located. I am probably going to run both since it looks like the original support was riveted and welded in place at some point. winduptoy - appreciate the pix and the stance of your car looks great - I like the use of the spark arrestor as an intake - have not seen that done before.
Got a little time in the garage yesterday before I had to go man the grill. Removed and disassembled the drag link, tie rod, shock links and shock levers - one of the Houdailles seems shot although I am going to play with the adjuster to see if it firms up. What are folks’ experience running dog bone links in place of the originals - am I correct that later model NOS dog links won’t fit since the hole for the balls are both on the same side but that there are repros that will fit?
Picked up some parts from the powder coater and bought a set of 32 spindles that need to be cleaned up. Probably won’t get a lot accomplished until a month from now given other commitments.
