Looking for some motor mount options for my 241 Hemi Dodge. 241 lacks block casting so other option are being considered. And meaningful suggestions are welcomed
Factory had a front mount (Hurst style). Might be able to find one or fab it up, rather simple. Here's one, partially done, and a factory one.
I currently have this but the bolt holes don’t line up. Got it from HH it appears the spacers are also too short
Hurst type motor mount but like 73RR said you will want to use 3/8 bolts instead of the 5/16 bolts or if you are still running the stock water pump you can build a mount off of that
This is what I did using the HH front cover, and Chevy water pump. I made several blanks, with a laser cutting co, that has since sold. They have a 250 dollar min, and have my program. Built similar to a Hurst.
I used the stock Dodge mount in the front. And made a crossmember that i bolted to the transmission in the rear to take the torque.
Those billet water pump motor mount things really stick out on a hot rod. Some corner rounding, hole dilling in the milled slot, and paint go along way in making them less obvious.
Sorry; thought that was a Hot Heads water pump adapter/mount not one of yours. Looks just like the Hot Heads' mount that was on Chad's 241 we swapped into his A coupe.
This frame is narrow enough that the HH ones would have required mounts that cantilevered off of the outside of the frame rails.
There were a couple of Dodge 241 hemis with stock mounts at SoCal party (night before Fathers Day show) Nicely finished, looked like 'speed parts'. My Hemis are Chrysler and DeSoto, so I was unfamiliar with the Dodge block lacking ears! I'm sure I ran across that in my apprentice years, as we worked on all kinds of Chrysler products. Too long ago! GOOD thread, bet this will help many.
Yes, Gr5 is appropriate but, in the larger size. The mount you showed and the verbiage seem to indicate that the mount was spaced away from the block/front cover. Yes? If so you should also take a hard look at the attachment in terms of the location of which bolts are used and how many. No, I am not familiar with your mount design. Perhaps some additional photos?
I made a Hurst style mount. It features a tie bar brace as I had little room at the bottom. The tie rod runs near it. The pan was modified and is now a rear sump and also shorter for ground clearance. I did drill out to use 3/8 bolts. It has worked just fine for a really long time.
I’m back on the mount project on the 241. Decided to take several suggestions made. One is to drill and tap for 3/8”. A lot stronger. To add to the strength I’m going with another suggestion of using 3/8” grade 8 studs. This coupled with Loctite should give me the strength I need. I’ll need to address the cradle mount I got from Speedway. The four round spacers that space the mount a 1/4” from the block are poorly welded and one is slightly off center od the mounting hole. I figure new spacers and re-welding is in order.
