I just bought a 33 Chevy coach and the VIN Plate is missing or I can't find it (maybe lost during previous paint job ?) . I have the ***le with the VIN.
I would like to make a VIN plate and attach it to the car but not sure where it should be. It seems like the 31 Chevy I used to have was on the right rear floor (or am I dreaming) ?

Could someone take a picture of their VIN plate location and post it here ?
    Thanks

Beautiful car, I am not sure but I think that the vin tag was NAILED to the floor on the p***enger side.

PICT0996.JPG Chuck is right, tag is nailed to the wood right beside the p***enger seat, you can buy the original looking tags if yours is in bad shape. Most tags are painted over many times so take paint remover to remove the paint, don't sand as it will take too much metal off. Your car is in such good shape that the tag should be there. They sell the tags on EBay

This is one of the few that I have ever seen still attached to the original sill plate.

I have a question about reproduction Serial/VIN tags.

We all know that its a federal offence to remove, install, tamper with, replace Serial/VIN tags.

As far as I know, there is no state that will re- apply a reproduction exact copy of an original tag.
After you go through many hoops to prove ownership and other requirements, and the state approves they will affix a state issued VIN/Serial number of this own, nothing like the original tag or number.

I was also under the ***umption that it is also illegal to make and sell an exact reproduction of an original Serial/VIN tag?????????

I have not found a real answer on the net, other than hearsay.

There are a number of companies that freely advertise making exact reproductions of tags

Seems to me that this is just as illegal as removing, installing, tampering with.

If the manufacture of exact reproduction tag is illegal, how are the companies getting away with it so openly?

When I registered my '31 as a street rod in Pennsylvania, the state vacated/cancelled the previous ***le and issued me a new ***le and VIN plate.
