All good points to go see the movie or watch at home. Great either way . Drive in, in your hot rod would be in my opinion the best.:)

I go to the movie theater for the same reason I buy magazines. Not because it’s better, they’re both a dying format that needs to be supported.

I hate almost all new movies so I’m happy to go see a movie I know I’ll love.

First time I saw it was on the mess deck of the Denver LPD9 in 73. The first run not many guys showed up but the word got out and the next night the mess deck was packed.

Same! I just looked it up and it's going to be at 3 theaters nearby.

Houston area HAMBers, the flick plays 8/28 4p in Katy at the Cinemark. I’ll be there with the Mrs and the 53. Let’s fill the parking lot with traditionals!

It's playing at my local theater in Waite Park, MN, but unfortunately not at the Starlite Drive Inn in Litchfield MN:( and there's no way I'm leaving my hot rod in the parking lot for two hours, BUT I may need to have an early dinner before the show at the 50's style diner next to the theater.

Have it on VHS with my other all-time favorite movie so I can watch anytime. It would be fun to see on the BIG screen at a drive-in filled with HOT-RODS & KUSTOMS though. Saw it first run in '73 in Washington D.C. CCI07072023.jpg

Yeah, it's a real drag having to climb over all those feet in the dark just to get to the restroom ;).

I think that scene above is an audition.

AG was played at a local drive-in last year, they did car show special type gig.

AG is all good but we really need to fire up Hollywood Knights again. Yeah, sure, less "innocent" than AG but that's the point. Let he who is innocent cast the 1st lug nut...

Won’t make difference to me. Haven’t been in a theater in over 50 years. Screen is too dark, sound is too loud, and viewers are too noisy.

What would be neat would be if someone would contact the local car clubs in their area and see if they could fill the parking lot with hot rods while attending the movie. One specific show time. Might lead to more old movies making a comeback.

Here you go, Dan. You could try contacting one of these and seeing about an AG night.

I did that very thing a few years ago, they weren't interested. Might try again I guess. And I called the one's you listed including a few others.

    Edit:
    Just rememberd:

A couple of them said I could rent the place for a private showing but had to pay up front for a minimum amount of vehicles. I didn't have the scratch to front it and then worry about recouping with a turnout or not.

I was 11 years old when that came out in 73. Went to it with my friends at the local theater.. I was a converted to a motorhead right then.. Milner Coupe and the 55 & 58 Chevy's...

  23. My folks took me in my PJs at 5 years old. I was already hooked on hot rods and racing from my dad. Wouldn't let him toss any of his magazines as we moved from ND to Iowa to Sodak and then 5 family moves after that. Still have them all after 5 more moves as an adult with my own family !

At the Movie Tavern in Nicholasville, near Lexington, KY. We have a monthly cruise there and the manager is a huge car guy. I expect a cruise will be coordinated with this event too.

Dying format is absolutely correct, and like you i'll support them when i can (i still miss my morning newspaper). What pisses me off is the ones that say they're going to watch it at home, rent it, whatever, then turn around and say they wish they could have seen it on the big screen or drive in. Here's the chance and as usual they pull out their book of reasons not to and begin searching.
Yes, if its showing around here on the big screen i'm going.

i turned 14 in 1962, so i really felt connected to AG. i first saw it at one of those "mini" cinemas, and it was a double-bill with an oldies concert film, "let the good times roll."

One of the best Hot Rod calendars I ever saw, was put out by the Dukes of Spokane in the 80's. It had a great black and white photo of a local Drive In Movie theater, filled with rods and customs, showing AG on the big screen. There were also pranksters, sneaking out of the trunks of cars ! Wish I had picked one up.

Like to do the Katy thing but its also playing at the Willowbrook which is a lot closer to me--and I'll be taking the grandkids-one in early teens and the other just getting there. What we need is a drive in that has about 600 spaces and would show it. Hot rods only.

I won't leave my car in a parking lot for 2 hrs to watch the movie. Maybe a group of hot rodders could hire a security guard to watch the cars while you watch the show..................
