i was looking for some ideas. my old daddy's 72 chevy has an hei that the previous owner put in and it ran fine for a couple of years, but now it runs a way and then dies going down the road. it has the accel super coil on it i think it's model 140003. we replaced the module inside the distributor and it went about the blocks and quit. so we replaced the coil with a new accel just like the old one and it won't start at all. it coughed once but won't start. we took the battery wire loose from the side of the cap and cranked the truck with a test light and we've got power, i don't know how many volts though. if we had less than 12v would it do this. i've messed with a few hei's and only ever had trouble with coils and modules. if anybody has any ideas thanks a million.

check the wires inside the distributor going to the magnetic pick-up . They break inside the insulation or sometimes break right off. Just give them a light pull.

I had a problem last year that was just about as mistifying. I was going to Road Rockets In Indy, Car just quit... 5 miles from destination. Crank.. no start, replaced coil and module, no luck..
Found out the magnetic pick-up broke. Replaced whole dist. and now its fine..
    Chk. Magnetic pick-up..
