Just a quick question-does anyone know when people first began drilling holes into I-Beam front axles? Thanks. -Dean
Hey, that's a great question. so i looked thru two of my books by Don Montgomery and found zero [1940 era ] pictures of any holes in axels. i was thinking of doing that to the axel in my modified. appears it may not be correct for a 40's era hot rod. i'm sure someone will probally correct me, but i didn't find any so far, but i only have a few dozen more books to look at yet.
1938 B.C. It was right after the invention of the wheel. A fella named Ugg had just invented the axle and placed it between the two wheels..... As soon as that had been done a fella named Ogg drilled it full of holes. Oddly enough, they hadn't invented the drill press yet, so he had to train a giant prehistoric woodpecker to do the job. (in other words...I don't know)
Mine was drilled when I got it and it was last tagged in 59. I would say that in the fifties it started
