Anybody got any ideas for an inexpensive junk yard find gas tank that will fit behind the rear seat in a 29 model a tudor sedan? Rock valleys are 750.00 thats just way to much. I was hoping i could find something in a junkyard that will work any help would be appreciated.

Look in the Speedway catalog, Moon ""Style"" tanks, 11 gallons, spun aluminum, 10" X 33", including brackets and cap for approximately $120...Hide an infloor boat tank under your rear seat if you are going to have one..."Tanks" universal gas tank is around $250 I think....Just a couple of suggestions... Old model "T" tanks are cool if you can find one...

This will fire up some guys but whats wrong with the stock tank? I had a 29 tudor and ran the cowl tank for 13 years .. sold it and the new like 3rd owner cut the tank and put one behind the seat. Ok thats cool but who the fuck is gonna ride back there LIL MIKE ! It only take a little room to take up a lot of back seat area. Ya I know who wants to drive a car with the gas tank over the engine? Fuck I got a 32 with the first thing to get hot from the rear is the goddamn tank? Questions............:p:D

Thats a good suggestion about running a '32 style tank in the back. It would give you room for your dash gauges and also have a rear seat for family or friends...extra storage space for things. You can buy the rear '32 frame horns to mount the tank. If your worried about a rear end collision put a sturdy nerf bar around it for a rear bumper. I would rather have the gas tank outside the car better than inside. Just my two cents...about what my opinion is worth!!!:D

I hydrauliced a motor using a stock tank, years ago. You forget to shut the valve off one time and the motor's full of fuel. Happy to hear some people have had luck with them, but I'd never use one again. Almost burned the shop down too.

  12. There is a thread I started if you dig deep, on this same topic, had some photos in it of tanks in tudors.. I think I titled it "what are guys using for tanks in Model A's" ... some of the same debate, why not use the cowl tank, but I too want room for the gauges and with a pickup, you have a lot of room for a low, flat tank under the bed floor -

I meant to say this before, but that would be my issue with the cowl tank - getting the rust out of it. You'd probably spend as much on getting it cleaned out and sealed inside as you would to just put another tank on it someplace.

Very true about hydraulic locking your engine with a leaking carb. I had this happen recently. (This didn't happen with the stock flathead 4 with an updraft carb.)

Nothing wrong with using the stock tank. It's possible to put a dash in front and run modern gauges though.

And nothing wrong with mounting a 32 tank in the rear. My chopped top 31 A coupe is going to get that treatment also. I bought a set of repop frame rails and a plastic tank from "Tanks". No rusted old stocker tanks to worry about. Which is my biggest problem to date with running a stock A tank. All that rust. No matter what treatment you use, it's almost impossible to get rid of all of it. I run a screen in the valve, and a sediment bowl with another screen, and a inline filter as well. And end up having to clean out the sediment bowl every week or so...full of very fine rust.

    Rust never sleeps.

That's cool! Thanks for the tip. I was going to run a T tank in my A, but didn't like the smallish capacity at 10 gal. Now I just need to go measure and see if it will fit in the trunk!
