With all the housing development in the area, the land is just worth too much money.

We are losing big names, which I get is distressing. You hate the lose the history. Hopefully the family does build a new facility in a new location. That said, Ive also seen conflicting information that says we have actually opened as many or more tracks as we have closed. (Many of these being tracks that have re-opened under new ownership) BUT they are mostly 1/8th mile.

I know around here in central Indiana there have been 3 tracks open or re-open under new ownership in the last 5 years. Many of them suffer from self-inflicted wounds in marketing in my opinion, and struggle often.

I wish there would be a bigger emphasis with classic car enthusiast in supporting their local tracks. Stop having those small car shows at KFC or some random church parking lot. Have the same gathering at that local 1/8th mile track. You can even sit in the same lawn chair you were going to sit in at the KFC. But you can actually take your car down the track if you want, rather than just talk about how you did it once in 1983. Dont like that there is a guy who showed up to the car show in a Honda? Offer to race him. :) You might put him in his place, or find a new respect for someone else's car.

  9. YES. That sums it up perfectly! I can not agree more with Rocks statement.

  10. I’m from northern Indiana, where are these tracks?

That track was fine for slower cars, but faster ones had some problems with the shutdown area not being long enough. Had some good street car racing, went and watched a couple of times.

As far as I know, Lassiter Mt is still open, not sure how much, not hearing much about them since the new owner took over.
Holiday Beach is open, as is I22 up in Eldridge. Both just became IHRA tracks this year.
I22 had a car show/open track day last year, hope they do it again this year. I didn’t get to go for some reason last year.

  12. Lassiter? Come to think of it I haven’t heard much from there lately. I’ll check
I-22 and Holiday are still going
And Bama, the one that closed was poorly designed. Wasn’t a full 1/8 after several ran out the other end. Fast cars didn’t have enough shut down room.

Yeah, Bama was what, 600 ft? I know they had a couple of fast cars almost end up in the river. Never figured out why they built it the way the did…

Speed's New Hope in Spencer Indiana this is a vintage track re-opened.
Wagler, I think its Lyons Indiana? This I believe is another track with a long history owned now by Wagler. Also has mud drags.
Salem Motorsports park. This is an 1/8th mile track built from an old airport. I think they have a drift track too.

Just read in the Denver Post yesterday......they're moving out by DIA. John Bandimere said everyone thinks housing is forcing them out when in fact, they need more space and are comfortable with moving. That view is not going to be the same tho.:(

  17. We do not have many tracks round my area compared to the past, however, Beaver Springs is one of the finest tracks in Pa. Mason Dixon, also great track. Newmedia, when they run also great and very historic. Atco, New Jersey, Excellent!
