This past weekend my buddy and I were poking around in the garage and ran across a flathead block that my dad picked up a Pe*** Jean swap meet back in the late 70’s early 80’s. He had it tucked away and covered up to where all you can do is feel the thing and was buried pretty deep. It’s in a climate controlled environment so no rust major rust or damage so at worst you’ll have to hone it before building. I know that he paid $100 for it but what do you think it would bring today? This isn’t the only one I have here and the others were acquired in trade for some labor that he did for a good friend of ours that owned a parts place here in town. Before anyone asks they are not for sale. But we have a bet between us as to what I would pay for one if we found one today. Billy
Last month. Ad on Ford Barn. 8BA hot tanked, pressure washed and magnafluxed. $500.00. That's a good deal. Shipped from Kansas to N C. $175. He was a lieing #*% The @&% block has 2 cracks headed toward the cylinders and a 1 " crack that has been Iron***e plugged in an exhaust port. I have it on the HAMB. Free to anyone who wants it. The mods here deleted a thread where I mentioned his user name along with pictures. I paid $200.00 for a complete engine last week. [ 15 miles away ] Over $1,000.00 labor tearing it down and I know what I am doing. So you tell me what a N O S block is worth.
I have an 8BA block with absolutely NO CRACKS anywhere. Someone with a **** ***embly needed a block real bad. I told him $2,000.00. He lost interest. I have a 293 **** ***embly also. Some day I may build it.
That ****s that someone lied to you about your block. I’ve fixed a few in my day and the one in my dads 2dr I welded up with stainless rod and the builder was pissed as heck after he broke 3 tools while milling it. After that he would not work on any of our stuff again LOL.
I paid $600.00 last week at the Charlotte swap meet. It's been bored .125 over. Needs honing. Valve seats ground. Nice 8BA pan and front crank pulley that I needed. That makes 3 good blocks that I have and 3 Merc cranks plus the **** ***embly. I also have an N O S Ford crank. My helper went to work for Buck Baker driving school. I might build one flathead per year if I don't find another helper.
Son of big dude that’s some change!!!! I decided that since I have a ton of flatheads that are good, (some running, some not) that I am going to grab one of the NOS blocks that I have and build a blower motor and put it into an FED. I know that I’ll have to do a bunch of machining and beefing up the bottom end but if I start with a new block then I shouldn’t have any surprises when I build it.
I bought an 8BA a couple months ago that was being built for a 32 sedan when he died. A couple of us were invited to come take a look at what his daughter was selling and for the most part, everything was too high for me except the motor on his motor stand. It's got a Ford 4" crank, adjustable valves, an Isky cam, and has been heavily relieved and the ports have been polished. It's got domed pistons and id 60 over. I bought it for her asking price of of $450. I've since decided to adapt a blower to it and put it in a32 ch***is for my 32 three window with a dego front axle, a quick change in rear and run a set of magnesium Halibrand big windows.
I just got this rebuilt 8BA, mint inside for $1000.00 and some fencing. No cracks .010 over 255ci. Feeling very fortunate
