Picked up this non running 29 A roadster. found some 35 wires and ordered new tires. Got it running with fake stromberg. Cast iron header and new exhaust. Going for vintage speed. Planning on lower back 2”.
It's hard to imagine such a nice looking car being sold in non-running condition. Looks great. Good for you.
Thanks for the nice comments. The body is in really good shape and pretty complete car. I got the taillight working. I have one headlight working so fixing that. Changed all fluids, tranny was nasty black syrup. Brakes need to be gone through.
Converted to 12volt and FSI electronic ignition. I was up until midnight but all went well I need to re index oil pump to change plug wire routing. she fires right. Also put modern shocks on front. Stil need todo rears. Need hun puller. Getting things sorted out. Made a grocery run and made it home!
Is that intake and exhaust manifold the ones sold by Red’s Headers? Looks like they fit well together.
That is a beautiful '29, congratulations. You could correct the shock angle by moving the axle clamp to the front side and redoing the top mount to the front. The shock angle would be vastly improved and the shock would function better. But all in all that is a great A Model.
Fogger, you mean turning bottom mount around and the top stud put toward the front. If so, I will give it a try hopefully would clear the leaf spring. I have been working on the breaks and getting things sorted out.
Yes, place the clamp for the lower shock mount on the front of the axle between the spring perch and the kingpin. Then move the top mount forward on the frame in a position to clear the spring and axle. An angle of 20 degrees will work very well for the shock. Again a beautiful '29 you'll have a great time driving it.
Let’s see….32 rails, pinched for the body; rear coil overs on a 9”; 32 grille shell; 3” dropped front axle; disc brakes all around; blown SBC; 200R4 transmission; Duke Hallock windshield; red paint; then you’ll have the same as every one else.
@imtb Fantastic looking car! Mine looked somewhat like it, but not nearly as nice (and it had glass fenders...sad) You will certainly enjoy that ride! It may be tight with the brake rod if he moves the bottom of the shock out toward the kingpin. May have to move the top of the shock outward as well to clear it.
Thanks for all the response. I am not a fan of the Hal lock windshields, I wouldn’t mind having a 2” chop. Got a few more things done. Brake rods with all new pins and brake rods adjusted. Brakes still not that great. Battery is now held in place. Removed stone guard. Picked up this T5 for a swap.
Very, very cool roadster. If you swap the A with a T rear spring with a reversed main, you'll get 2"+ without doing anything else. Would make your car just about perfect.
