Just announced today that Atco Raceway after 60+ years has closed the doors and cancelled all remaining events for the year. Rumors had been going around for years that it was to be sold for auto storage but they were trying to keep it a drag strip. A sad day guys as another one bites the dust. I was there when it first opened. Lots of great memories. MantuaJohn
Sad news indeed. I understand that we will lose Sacramento Raceway at the end of this year. I guess it’s a sign of the times.
Lived near atco drags and remember hearing the races from a distance . can still smell the mountain laurel of Wharton SF and still remember every bend, bump, and straight on Jackson Road…..
It ****s for sure. Who would have thought that Island Dragway would have outlived both Raceway Park and Atco?
Our local speed shop would announce that they had the track for a day now and then. Lots of locals ventured out to run, which was an odd week day. From what I understand, the decision was made all of a sudden.

Raced my 57 there at the 2018 bracket finals.Thought when I retired to my other house 35 miles away this would be my new home track. Well it ****s but life moves on. RIP Atco
