Yeah, read that this morning. Somebody thinks the land is more valuable as a storage and auction facility. I've never seen the place but it's a damned shame that this has happened.
Co-part is going to use the site for auction wrecks, same company that got Englishtown racetrack. Now there are no dragstrips left here in NJ. Guess the racers will do it on the street, oh wait they already do.
Always sad when a racetrack closes. I’d better go to St Thomas Dragway next weekend and support them to keep the gates open.
I have run countless times at Atco, my coupe was raced there all trough the 60's. Excellent track and a great place to turn it up!
Yes, Mile High in Colorado is gone now , the Bandemere family is going to try and build a new track near the Denver Airport.
Same here in NC, a local track closed earlier this year to do some paving on the track. They uncovered a sink hole and that halted the work. It will surprise me if they reopen.
Sad to see it go, raced there last season for the first time since the eighties. No surprise based on the lack of capital investment in the track compare to Cecil County our home track.
I've read the grandstands have already been sold insuring it won't any kind of a racetrack in the future.
Local (NJ) racetracks that continue to exist are New Egypt Speedway, Wall Speedway and Bridgeport Speedway. * Vintage vehicles of the H.A.M.B. variety, occasionally occur at these locations because of the Garden State Stock Car Club!
