Soon as I get home from our trip to Montana and Idaho I'll reload and head for Bonneville!

Was trying to make plans to go this year (went once before, 3 years ago, almost accidentally), too late as usual. Spectator only, would like to do two days. To see the most, what part of the week would be best usually? Sat/Sun, Tues/wed, or Thurs/Fri, more or less? I know that’s a little vague. Was all set up to go last year, but then…..

Sat/Sun is the busiest. Some of the best racing is then, and the next 2 days. W/Th gets a bit sparse but of course its all weather dependent - think both rain and wind. We'll be out there this year without the truck.

I concur with @distributorguy . In addition, the nightly car gathering at the Nugget (which is great) is usually best during Fri?, Sat, Sun. I don’t know enough about it to say if there is a true schedule for it, or if by Monday there just aren’t as many people around anymore.

Best to plan on attending Speed Week during the first few days. I usually arrive Friday and leave Tuesday.

Recently by Monday the lines are almost empty and the announcers are calling for competitors. That was mostly with 3/4 courses but still getting to be the norm.

I'd just take that old one off your hands if that would help you not take up garage space !!

I am taking a friend there for his first time. Glamping at the KOA. Long drive from Texas but will be fun. Used to go every year when we lived in Idaho. No old cars this year driving a newer truck. Going to spray everything underneath the truck with WD40 before we drive on the salt and rinse it off each night at the car wash.

Anyone know the condition of The Bend? last year was a disaster out there, and the mud flats at the bend got seriously torn up. most everyone who was camped there on Friday night into Saturday morning were stuck in the mud. Camping there this year is going to be a challenge, unless all the ruts and stuff somehow miraculously went away.

  23. The Bend is fine. Are you a betting man? It stays perfect UNTIL it rains. Some years, no rain, others?

  24. Tips for the KOA. Take your shower either real late or real early. So many go to bed early that by 9-10PM the shower house is pretty empty. Bring flip flops

My backup run is shown at time make 45 seconds in the attached video from Speedweek 2021 here you will see our XF/BGREMR setting the record at 205.744 turn up the volume and enjoy. Over 200 MPH from a 292 cube Ford flathead burning gasoline driving off the line to the third mile.

I'd be willing to bet it's not fine. I mean, I'm sure it's dried out, just don't think it's as smooth as it used to be. all this stuff and much much more had to be pulled out last year, and this pic was from Saturday. by Tuesday it was starting to dry out, and the mud was like clay that you'd make pottery out of. and they were still pulling giant RVs out. it was a quagmire, and I don't think it just heals itself after it's torn up like it was. 29. It's all lake bed. Both the salt and the mud flats. I'm guessing it's self leveling once it gets flooded in the winter. That's why the salt surface is so flat. Stands to reason in my feeble mind anyway...

right, but if you watch videos of people recovering their stuff from the pits, they were still driving on the salt crust. maybe it was a mess where the salt broke through to the underlying silt/mud, but it stayed fairly clean from what I saw. the mud flats were a different story. would like to hear from someone who has actually seen the bend this year.
last year wasn't my first trip there, but the first I've ever seen when everything was flooded to that extent. I'm sure it'll be fine, just kinda awkward camping on rutted hardened clay. maybe I'm wrong...
Isn't that the reason El Mirage does not allow any driving on the lakebed after a flooding rain?
