After the 29 setting still for about 5 years I am starting on the doors. I am installing the L shaped lips that the aluminum skins will wrap around. Many hours are required fitting the L shaped lips for a perfect outer skin fit. The front L's will be inset 1/8" at the front coach reveal and perfectly flush with the quarter panel at the rear. I used an .063" feeler gauge at the rear. That is the thickness the skins will be. Damon Detmer will be doing the skins. He has thousands of hours more experiance than me. The second last picture is a 28 I built [ 2" added to the top of the body. ] with the D D installed skins. The doors fit the body perfect and the door gaps are perfect also. PS: My hood sides will require sanding on the ends to make room for primer and paint. Also note. No visable fasteners.
A bracket welded to the cowl. A bracket welded to the nose. Bolts go in the hood side flange. Hood side flange at the bottom, bolts go in to the frame. A slight concave shape to the front and rear of the hood sides holds the hood side tight to the nose and cowl.
Also the belly pan which has a 1 " radius on the bottom has no fasteners showing. Don't tell anyone. It's the frame.
It's been a long time since I purchased the 1- 800 door hinges. As I recall the hinge boxes protruded quite a bit into the ****pit. What's up with that? After reworking this is what I ended up with. With about a 1/8" gap the doors will still open fine.
No visable fasteners on the grille either. Check the fit. * Hidden shock mounts and headlight mounts.
I used a 265 S B C engine and the later 153 tooth flywheel. I built a shallow circle track type oil pan to get the engine down low. The smallest production flywheel that I know of. I drilled the block to use a late mini starter. Starter works perfect. You have to look close but I made the spark plug wire looms. The flange between the upper firewall panel and the lower panel faces rearward not forward into the engine compartment like a stock Model A.
I'm not sure I've ever commented on your work, but I've always been impressed with itand your knowledge base. I have to admit thought I was originally ****ed in by your y-block track rod.
Thanks for the update. I am coming down to your shop one day and agrivate you. I'll bring my coupe........
Good luck with the build and Grand National show. There is something special about this car, it cough my eye early on, stance is perfect. Bob
I often said the first thing a money bags owner will do is have the Hilborn converted to E F I. When the rod shop owner picked up the car he asked " Will a 4 barrel carb fit under the hood?" I guess the buyer can't afford the E F I conversion.
