34 Gaz : .some 20 years back , I stripped a Popeda like the one you have .. The rear axle was kinda neat .. Early Ford banjo with open driveline & "modern" style bearings : excellent for an early Ford update :) The rest of the car was like a mix between GM & Ford : Dashboard , Grille , Parking-lights& Tail-lamps looked almost like the dezign was stolen from a `42-`48 Chevy, and the bumpers looked like they where from a Desoto . AND , the steering column was a nice piece ( Looks like a `40-`48 Ford piece.. sideshift that is )
    Klaz
BTW .. The car I stripped for parts was a rust-bucket sitting roof down in a ditch .. Like a " save what you can " situation

Well, they're not 1:1 copies (except the Gaz 13, which is 1.1 Cadillac I think?), so they were exported a little by the name GAZ of course.
I know that Moskvitch exported cars to UK, with the right-sided steering wheel etc.

My current project is ´69 GAZ 24, I hope to make a little thread about it here in HAMB too, but everything on it's time;) This is my first serious project actually and of vourse I'm still a big amateur. I try to make it look a little bit good first and then it's gonna be it's time to show off.

  4. Looks like a Checker cab with a '55-'56 Packard front clip and a custom grille - I was cutting pieces off a '55 the other day, I wouldn't be surprised if the headlight bezels and park light housings will swap one to the other from the GAZ to a Packard -

  7. FWIW, FDR convinced Packard to send over the dies for the '41 senior series (after the war), as part of a friendship package or some such (right, like Stalin wanted friends...). Anyway, the ZIS IS an exact 'copy' (same dies, not really a copy, eh??) of a '41 Packard 180, save for small trim items.
BTW, this move effectively eliminated the senior series from postwar production for Packard, who then had to try to keep a reputation built on same with the junior series cars.
We know how well that worked for them, don't we??
