Hi all, I have a question. A few months ago I bought a Isky camshaft for a Ford flathead I'm putting together for a project. Anyway, after I drilled the lifter bores out for a pin to keep the lifters from rotating, I put the lifters and valves into #1 cylinder, set the valve clearance, did the same for cylinder #2, then on cylinder 3 I noticed the lifters weren't moving when I tried to set the valves. Long story short, I took out the cam, in 2 pieces. It was broken into 2 halves. Now this is a new cam, never ran. So I called Isky cams, and didn't anywhere with the phone call. I was given the name of a guy at Isky, so I sent the cam to him in the mail. It was delivered last Friday. So now I'm trying to email this guy, but no response. I always thought Isky Cams was a reputable company, but now I'm starting to wonder. Maybe I'm wrong in thinking the cam should be replaced by them, but maybe not. Anyway, anyone have a loapy flathead Ford cam they want to sell, And no Isky cams please.
Cheese n rice, give the guy aa chance to look at it before condemning him. It is Monday, he received it last Friday. It isn't an organ transplant. Pour yourself a strong one, listen to some Robert Plant and I bet you hear from him tomorrow.
I am trying to give up cheese, carbs and using the Lord's name in vain. Mainly for dietary reasons and while I am no saint, cutting down on the sinning is a good call the older I get. Bible doesn't say anything about strip clubs and bourbon so...
my Isky 400jr cam broke in half.... when new before the engine was started. Was about 10 years ago, Isky replaced it free with no hassle.
I was trying to cut down the # of beers I drink in a week. 24 ounce cans were a step in the right direction... nobody sells quarts any more...the country is in a decline. I stumbled on 2-packs of Dos Equis and Heineken 1.32 gallon mini-kegs... now we are getting somewhere...
I don’t recall that, but when younger and before 24 oz cans were a thing, I’d start mentally calculating 32’s vs a 6 pack. Yes, was a broke college kid.
Yup, GI Q. 40s were later. Don't forget Boones Farm, Annie Green Springs, Mad Dog 20 20. We used to call those little ones pony bottles.
For those who might want to know G.I.Q. = Giant Imperial Quart. When I moved south in 1982 when I mentioned G.I.Q people looked at me like I was from another planet so I thought it was only a Detroit thing. No matter who the manufacturer is a cam breaking in half before the engine is run is just poor quality control. Are these cams induction hardened or case hardened mild steel. Either way no excuse. Just curious but where did cam break?
Would think you must have felt some resistance when rotating the engine/cam in order for it to break. Any possibility of a chip or burr inside the lifter bore where you drilled the holes ? Something had to provide some resistance. Its not beyond the realm of possibility that a cam core got dropped or had a flaw in it. If its Iskys fault I feel sure they will stand behind it.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....did we party together ?!! Isky...being one of the oldest speed equipment companies around...they are bound to stand behind their stuff. Maybe not the next DAY but......cut'em a little slack. 6sally6
I have ordered two cams from Isky both for my 261s the lastest a custom grind oval track cam. Each time I have dealt with Ron Iskenderian, over the phone, I didn’t have any issues and very pleased. As far as I know based on what I was told when ordering a cam, Ron handles all the vintage engine camshafts grinds/orders.
Just curious, are the holes you drilled for keyed radius or roller lifters or just to hold the lifter from turning while adjusting them?
I see them here in ghetto 'hoods... but 32 ouncers are more traditional. Good old Colt 45 was our weapon of choice for years. Quarts were our best swilling-value when we were broke. The 40 oubce thing was around 1984-ish. Miller had a great promo with a 32 ounce can called KING CAN.
No, the holes are for keeping the lifters from turning when you set the valve clearance, by inserting a small pin punch thru the hole and into the oblong slot in the lifter
Well its been over a week, still not even a email stating that they have received the broken camshaft. I thought the very least they could have done is send a email saying they are in possession of the cam, and are evaluating the cam,
