Event Coverage 75th Bonneville Speedweek 2023

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by RMR&C, Jun 10, 2023.

  1. The Bend recovers for the most part. Folks forget it is underwater for several months BEFORE the advance teams show up to drag the courses

  2. One week away!

Seeing some rain showers forecast for early next week. Hopefully the weather guessers are wrong as usual!

There are better and more civilized places to park than the "Bend". Like don't take the bend and go up the hill, I am told. And, better yet, what we used to call the "The Ballpark" -- coming from the east on the freeway, take the Wendover exit, across from the Auto Parts Store.

you are right! after getting my little RV out of the mud last year(managed to throttle it out), spent night #2 up the road that heads northish from the bend. very nice up there, high ground, and not that much more of a drive down to the event.

Supposed to rain all week in Salt Lake - hopefully we don't have a repeat of last year...

If anyone needs a RV space at the KOA, I have an extra spot reserved that just opened up. It is check in Friday (8/4) and check out Monday (8/8). Cost is just over $300. If you need it, message me.

    Thanks,
    Matt

SCTA is on the salt and dragging for final grooming of courses. They're saying course #1 is an "8", and that recent heat from Mother Nature has provided for some good salt. Let's hope it stays that way!!!! Hopefully #75 will be a memorable one!!!! Go Fast, Be Safe!!!

    The Latest from SCTA

    Update #3 – 7/31/23:
Grooming on Course #2 is complete. As of today we would rate Course #2 the same as Course #1, which is a strong 8. Tomorrow we will keep fine tuning both courses. The pits, village & vendor areas are now 90% complete and will be finished tomorrow. Surveying went great today. We had Course #1 surveyed 8+ miles and Course #2 surveyed 7+ miles. Security is on the salt and started this morning. The wire crew has been doing a great job of untangling the wire from last year. The cleanup crew is still cleaning up firepits.
Everything is shaping up very nicely and we look forward to seeing all of you on the salt!
We will be out on the salt early again tomorrow.

Damn firepits......why do people need to be such a**holes???!!!

Looks like things are shaping up for a good Speed Week!!!

I'm still nervously riding the fence watching the webcam , weather reports and the fire at Oroville and Osoyoos. Our go to route through Nighthawk is closed because of the fire.
If there's no standing water on the webcam by Wednesday night we're pulling the trigger.....we couldn't get rained out again ,could we?

I think we are going to be good. They said we would have rain yesterday and we didn't have any. It shows a chance of light showers right now, but I suspect Speed Week will remain unaffected. For those that don't know, we did have a heck of a winter. Alta ski resort up the canyon here from Salt Lake recorded over 900" of snow.

The current local forecast is attached in the image file

Grandson and I are pulling out in the morning. Watching the weather pretty close. Last time we went it was a lake. Leaving the A at home this year. Taking the mini van. Yup that sucks but I am getting to be a pussy in my old age, and the A is ripped apart at the moment.

I'm working on my little camp trailer, prepping it to leave Friday morning. I'm 450 miles west of the salt so should be there by noon.

Forecast for the weekend is mid 80s so should be pretty nice.

I use the intro-net weather for Wendover and the SCTA-BNI site. It’s all a guess whether the salt actually gets rain. With the temps showing in the mid 80’s next week I’m betting on some windy days..
