Projects Stovebolt Gow-Jobs?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by the neighbor, Aug 2, 2023.

  1. I've been saving up parts for 50 years for a Stovebolt project. I now have a ported, balanced, Evergreen 3/4-race-cammed 261 Chev engine, Offy dual-single-bbl intake, Fenton manifolds, and Saganaw 4-spd. I've changed my mind over what to do with this stuff several times, but, at THIS point, I've decided to build up a rolling '29 Chev. frame, and use a '30 cowl, just to get started... I would love to see some pics of something similar, for inspiration... Anybody? Fendered or not... Might use an old '53 hood for a start on a "Boattail"... Maybe early Chev disc wheels. I just turned 71, and it might be time for this...

Sounds like fun as long as it ends up looking like an "old race car". I've got a similar Chevy frame that I have been going to put a Ford Flathead six that a fellow member gave me in. Low buck build that hopefully gives the appearance of being an old two seat race car when done. I've got a 29 model A Cowl that I found on the side of the road a couple of miles from the house after it fell off someone's trailer one day and a not good enough to use on a truck 47/53 Chevy hood that I modified to be the boat tail . It's another project that I need to be putting in a couple of hours a day on.

  3. SOoo, got any pics? I've noticed an amazing lack of "parallel sprung" cars here. I'm gonna have to start getting all my stuff into the same pile, so I can post something real... I actually have a couple of extra frame pieces, one with quarter-elliptic front springs, which might be fun to mess with...
