I have a leaded area that still needs a little bit of polyester filler to fill some imperfections. Should I spray some kind of primer over the lead before I apply filler or will the filler stick well to the lead? Its been a while since I did this before and I forgot what I did.
I had area with original leading where the back window meets the trunk in my 37 coupe. I just roughed it up a bit and laid the filler right over it. It’s been holding up with no cracks or issues for 15 yrs now.
You need to do an epoxy sealer over the bare metal/lead BEFORE adding whatever type of filler you wish to use! If you have made the lead very close to straight, I recommend Tamco 661 epoxy primer & then Tamco filler/primer followed by block sanding to make it perfect! No shrinking with Tamco products. By the way...Just because you did it & it worked....does NOT mean it was the right thing to do! God Bless Bill https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ar-transport-hauling-open-or-enclosed.614419/
Put a couple of coats of epoxy primer on and let dry. Then scuff and apply your filler. Many times a thin layer of the filler will not cure where it is in contact with bare lead
When fastening the formed square steel tubing inside my 'Glass Poly-Form '27 roadster body, I was heavily advised (By Dick Williams hisself!) to lay on a thin coat of epoxy primer before 'glassing steel to fiberglass. Great advice. Next time I use TAMCO. I like perfect.
I said Bondo but actually I think just a high build polyester primer will fill the imperfection I will address.
