  1. The camera is over by the dike, isn't it? I agree you can't judge course conditions by the camera. Was just curious if it rained again.
Anybody heard or seen what the Bend looks like?

  2. Yes, water naturally gets pushed there by the prevailing winds

Yes, hence why I said that if that area looks like the water is receding, the salt will probably dry up quite a bit today in critical areas. I remember driving through the puddle at lands end. :)

    Latest from SCTA:
    Update #7 – 8/3/23:
We made a trip out on the salt this morning and found that the water is going away. It is about an 1/8” to 1/4” everywhere and the deepest water is at the end of the road. There are more salt islands coming through the water. The weather is forecasted to be clear and supposed to be in the high 80’s to 90’s. Our goal as of right now is to start racing on Monday morning. We will go back out this afternoon to check the progress and update you again.

We were getting ready to drive away to head to Wendover but are pumping the brakes now after seeing this. We were going to leave Monday early AM to head back to Texas. From looking at this photo, is this at the end of the road where the salt begins? From this photo, Monday almost seems like an under promise/over deliver at posting racing starts on Monday...or maybe I'm overly optimistic.

As said in the text, the photos were taken at 1.5 miles down course #1.

The photos show little bits of water and lots of salt. 3.5 days to dry out before racing begins, as long as it stays hot and sunny Monday sounds like a pretty safe bet to me. Because safety at high speeds is involved, they are probably being cautious.

Keep in mind that Tech inspection would have started today for racing to begin Saturday. So they're already a day behind. If they don't get anyone on the salt until Saturday, the Monday start of racing aligns perfectly with how the event is scheduled.

in 2007, the entrance to the salt at the end of the road was dry on saturday, by sunday or monday, it was a few inches deep. then tuesday it grew toa foot or more deep. never rained, it's just the way the water moves around and all the while the courses remained dry. i do recall a wind delay which helps in moving the standing water around.

Painted this up on an old chair yesterday. I’ll get to the KOA tomorrow. Just a spectator again, but I’m all in!

I believe the “Pizza Man” ran a GMC in one. Saw it many years ago at Pomona at the November NHRA Finals..

I was in Salt Lake this week for work and had some free time yesterday. I took a drive west to the flats yesterday afternoon. It was quite wet at the entrance road. While headed back east to Salt Lake there were several major thunderstorms moving westward. The Salt Lake airport this morning was one huge puddle and it was spitting rain as I flew out.

Hopefully it dries up out at the flats! I'll get out there as a spectator some day
    Have fun everyone!

I bet Bill Burke was high on the list of most meets attended. That guy had stories.

I agree, it's quite unlikely anyone has been to all 75.

You all travel safe and have fun.
You racers need to pray to the salt God.
