    Hello,

Driving around in a Flathead 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery was fun and we got to see a lot of the So Cal coastline from Santa Barbara down to San Diego. But, later, one thing stuck our in our minds. If we could not put in more than 3 longboards in the rear window opening, that was the limit to our surf companions/friends.

We did not have seat belts and whoever sat in the back usually sat with their backs against the outer walls. We really did not want to take a third party as it was crowded back there.

So, we liked trucks and RPU versions, but again, there was less room for people and longboards. We had to have more room, so the station wagon was our choice for more interior space for friends and the longboards could be on the roof racks. But, then again, we were not in the market to bring a crowd to a specific surf spot. Ha!

So, there had to be something that had access to a deep bed for ease of loading and unloading stuff. Also, a place to sleep when camping on the beach or elsewhere. The boards could always be stashed in the back bed and owners ride comfortably to the surf spots, everywhere.

So, a Crew Cab Pick Up or modified Suburban giant station wagon panel truck would do the job.

The one complaint of old crew cabs and even the new models, is that the bed is shorter and loads are limited to carrying capacity. Yes, a longer bed could be added, but then the proportion of the overall custom build is thrown out. A longer bed looks as if it was stretched on those old Frankenstein movies where they pulled on both ends to make something taller or longer. Ha!

So, perhaps, a full Suburban window van is what is necessary…YRMV

    Hello,

I have always liked nice looking sedans from the way back time machine. Excellent drawing of @sololobo plus his cool sedan. One day during the height of the pandemic, I decided to draw my version of the Chevy sedan as I looked at the avatar. I tried a colorization program to get the color and failed at that.

    Jnaki
That was three years and a lifetime of pandemic restrictions that kept us safe at home. It took me a while, but in contacting him, I was able to come up with what I saw in the avatar. Nice sedan! These days, the pandemic is still around, but most think it is gone. It will eventually become one of those yearly virus protection shot things we all old folks get annually.

But, I had fun trying to get a fairly accurate drawing of his cool sedan, while locked in place...

    Note:
Here is some information from the three year old post.

We have always liked old hot rods. Over the years, we have seen quite a few "cookie cutter" cars. (Similar in style and make/model.) It is usually with a 32 grille in front of anything that rolls. So, when looking for a different hot rod to get inspired, this avatar spiked my interest.
[IMG] Nice sedan for the times, for sure!!!

@sololobo has been around since the early days of the HAMB. His avatar is one nice old cl***ic style hot rod. (Including those very early flames or swoopy scallops) So, in trying to draw other cars, a 1933 Chevy sedan is similar, but different than the old Ford sedans. The eraser was used quite often. His 33 Chevy two door sedan has the look and style of the late 50s early 60s Hot Rods.

The cl***ic outfit fit the style and look of the early red flames… no crab claws, here… It is the rolled up sleeves that we did see on the older guys hanging around our own neighborhood, too. It must have been a universal look back then for those that had different hot rods or just different cars.

My first attempt at getting the correct color… one PM later, the correct color combination.

My Uncle had one of these on a PONTIAC he owned way back at the end of the 50's. I always liked it. I believe the one he had lit up. I was looking to get one to hang on the wall of my garage but these are very pricey. Neat memory of a simpler time!
