HAMB auction for a "P***ing Eye" suicide ratrod-gothic deuce-Edsel Geek-deuce Mirror, as heavily discussed on the board lately.

I can't post pictures, but it is like the one in the discussion mentioned. It has minor pitting, major dirt, and a bit of lost silvering around the edge of one mirror. Meant to use it on my deuce, but it made the sidecurtain sag...I personally guarantee this to be two actual mirrors attached to a fifties baroque piece of potmetal.

Definitely authentic with lots of provenance--I pulled it out of a garbage can while walking my dog about 10 years ago.

Bid your hearts out for the HAMB. Remember, your lifestyle is a pathetic, empty shell if you don't own this!!

Best bid on my computer screen when I look at HAMB at 8:00PM on Monday, September 12 gets it.
You send money Ryan, I send mirror to you.
Or, trade straight across for Winky the Cat, and to hell with the HAMB...

$25 I'd love to see some detailed pics of it, there were several different styles.

Can't do pics, but will bring it in to work where computer lives, correlate it to a picture in the other thread so you can determine style, and give detailed info on pits and such. It is the basic type shown with about a 4" curved stalk holding it away from the car.

Detail description time--since I am posting this later than several bids, feel free to withdraw bids if description displeases you!

Go to original mirror post by metal hot rod Girl, which I will BTT, for pic sources.

First, basic shape seems identical to the one in Ebay ad mentioned and to the one posted by Darby. Goober's looks a bit curvier in the arm, but this is likely from pic angle.

Geometry: Center pivot of forward mirror would be about 3" out from door and 3 1/2" below top of mount. Aft mirror pivot is about 4" and 4". Both pivots are eccentric. Front mirror is partially framed by a crescent shaped "p***ing eye" logo.

Mirror condition is worst part, but mirrors are capable of their basic function of sending you confidently to your sudden death against an approaching cement truck. Edges of front mirror have visible deterioration of silvering, as is visible on the one in Darby's post. Roughly 75 % of surface is fully OK, and that's in the middle, so mirror is basically functional. P***ing Eye logo is nearly perfect on rear surface of gl***.

Rear mirror has silvering deterioration in a crescent that almost duplicates the area of the PE logo on front mirror--If I were keeping this thing, I'd paint a black crescent right over the area and pretend it came that way. There is light silver deterioration at upper edge of this mirror as well, but it is much less damaging and remains basically functional across that bad area.

Mirrors are held in by rolled edge, so could not be removed for replacement by any easy means. They would have to be covered by glue-on replacements for perfect optics, but they will work as is and patina is not glaringly awful. I can actually see around my "in" box with this thing as I sit here...Hey! I can see Elvis standing behind me, but he's kinda mumbling and I can't tell what he's trying to tell me! Must need better adjustment...

Chrome: Patinated but basically solid. There are pits, mostly on upper arm, but they are small and chrome around them seems solid. Hazy crud overall removes under thumb-nail s****ing...early beginnings of green fur type patina on mirror backs also comes away when I scratch at it. It is my belief that this will all clean up to an acceptable shiny surface with visible but not obnoxious patina when polished. I personally would go over it with a good polish and then protect it with wax or even clear coat--I will leave serious cleaning to the lucky buyer. Mounting screws have very light surface rust but move and will be easy to clean up. Remember, this is 1950's JC Whitney type hardware, not a mirror from a Packard, and probably was already deteriorating when it came out of the box...

I think this thing will clean up and look pretty damn good. If you disagree upon purchase, I (not HAMB) will refund your money and repost the thing with your comments attached as long as your resto doesn't actually damage it. Bruce

So did I get it? Is Bud 47 minutes late? Time zone differences? Or is he the winner? Somebody let me know either way before I wet myself.

You're right, and I am officially a *****. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll have to see if I can get any more scratch together to make another bid.

Hmmm...I'd better clarify the ending time, too--I just noticed the official HAMBTIME shown on this site doesn't relate to any local reality, SO official closing time is gonna be 8:00 PM eastern time as it is shown down at the bottom corner of my computer. I don't know how to correct the HAMB screen clock, I have forgotten if it is or will be daylight time or whatever, the number that shows on my screen is IT. You can come look over my shoulder and bid from my screen if you like, that's what I'm sticking to unless the voices in my head change the rules.
After it ends, you have a week to complete second mortgage and/or divorce to complete the sale...

And remember, this is an imperfect piece with patina and age--read my description carefully. I believe it will look good with an hour's elbow grease, but that is my own deranged opinion. I will refund and re-auction if I feel you have a legit gripe, but it better be good.
