A neighbor has a 51 Ford coupe (2nd owner) that has been sitting for many years outside (covered) it has a 1954 Olds Rocket engine that was gone through many years ago. The engine is set - I'm working on getting it to break free. Has a Cadillac 1953 Hydrostick transmission behind it. Period correct setup?

Is the Olds Rocket engine something worth salvaging.

Uh, yeah. Anything "Rocket" is desirable, doubly so if here is any speed equipment involved. A '54 is a 324 ci, so that's a plus, and you don't get much more "period correct" than a Olds in a "shoebox" Ford with a "Hydro-Stick".

I agree that the Olds is worth salvaging. Still lots of parts out there. Pretty cool!

Sure. Given the situation, it may have some speed parts inside.

Thanks guys...my plan is to get it running for him so he can sell it as a project. The body is pretty solid, stock Ford rear end, and stock suspension with drum brakes.

Here are the notes from the owner:

    1951 Ford 2 Door Coupe
    1954 Olds Engine

    Bored/Balanced
    5” Jahn’s pistons
    Extra supported crankshaft
    Engle camshaft
    Iskenderian springs and rockers
    Dual point ignition
    4 barrel carb
    1956 rebuilt Olds heads
    Headers
    New radiator (OEM type)
    Balanced drive shaft
    1953 Cadillac Hydrostick transmission (rebuilt)

Engine only had a few hours running time. Engine rebuilt years ago in NJ in the 1960’s.

Xtras: 1953 Desosto Grill (mint condition), two large chrome front arrow shaped lights, cannot recal their provenance, extra 1954 Old heads, extra carb and distributor.
