Been taking apart my 1964 Fairlane and getting it back together a little at a time. Took off the "eyebrow" trim on the front a while back and was curious as to what the it is exactly that they're screwed into, and if they're evel available. They look to be plastic grommets of some sort, but they're pretty degraded. Any help would be great. Attached some pictures for reference.
Nylon nuts. They push in the hole, then expand like a drywall anchor when you put in the screw. Ford makes them in bunches of different lengths so you may have to go to a specialty supplier like Dennis Carpenter for the right replacement.
The nuts pictured have a tube/stand off as part of the mount. It holds the trim at the right height and keeps the screw from squashing it. Here is a picture of one from another Ford. It's broken, the expanding legs are broken off but you can see what I mean. They come in many lengths.
Ace Hardware by me has a drawer of headlight adjusting hardware. I ran across it the other day when I was looking for other stuff.
