well wondering if any one has any cool info or pics of a 42ish stude champion. My fiance's parents have this friend that has a ranch in the middle of bfe nowhere montana but there are three old international pickups and a studebaker champion that i think he will probably give me to get rid of them. unfortuanatly the stude is rolled up on its side but other that that dont look to bad. just looking for any info or pics of such cars so i could maybe see what to do with it.
cool looking car the one i found is a 4 door with the suicide back doors. i thought it was way cool. what kind of motor and trannies came in these cars?
I had a 42 stud in high school, back in 1957 I think, and it was a tank. Most of the rodders thought it was a joke but you could have a party in the back seat and we often did. It was hell on wheels and scary in the flying mile but took a half mile to get up to speed. It was pretty ugly but very dependable until one of my ***** friends stole some "gas" for it and after pouring in 5 gallons and driving for a few minutes he realized he had put diesel in it. It smoked like crazy and the motor never was the same. He bought it from me under a great deal of duress and I don't know what happened to it.
you cant go wrong buying any studebaker!!! heres a 4 door sedan. chanelled 10 inches. stock running gear.
Very cool, very rare. It's not another " Belly****on" car. Buy it build it. Get more thumbs up using a Stude V8 and 4spd
There are still plenty of body parts around for those cars...and believe it or not, lots of NOS still around...even if it's rolled on its side, it can't be that badly damaged...its worth righting it, checking it over and hauling it home...they make great "you'll never see yourself coming down the road" cars... Here's a shot of my '40... R-
The Stude driver's club is a huge advantage for anyone fixing one up. I have been racing a champ engine at the salt flats, and this little flathead 6 (designed in 1939) can be made to create lots of hp and torque (with a turbo.....).
yea i looked at this one and it seemed to be pretty good and i could probably get it for free along with three 1939ish international pickups. there was a bunch of stuff inside of it to like a fender and i dont know what else. motor and trans was gone tho.
I have a 1941 almost the same. I have had it a long time. Every onc and a while some of the guy's get bored and pull out their 6 cly and we cruz them. Great fun. I have an extra motor and trans (carb to pan) the motor turns.
yea im just guessing on the year as it was up on its side the front clip was kinda twisted up but what i remember of the grill it looked like a 42ish. So what displacement engines did stude have back then.
The "champions" had the smallest engines At 169 cu. as you went up in model the commander had a slightly larger motor I think 245 then the "president had a straight 8. The champ motor has alot of people making speed parts for it. The leading person that knows this motor backwards and forwards is Mr. Cathcart. He builds these motors and has all the speed equipment. The extra motor I have was going to him until I found my 1940 Chevy . The upgrades will have to wait.
A picture would help identify what you have found. The Champions were very popular in the g***er crowd, even the four doors. They were smaller than the Commander or President models. There is a picture of a four door g***er in the thread about '39 - '47 Studebaker g***ers.
One that he posted to, in 2010, & anyways, pics of his 42 carrying the front wheels is so worth it. I still wish he'd put on the "trimmed" front bumper, would help the front end look, just my humble opinion. I still like it... . Marcus...
