Hot Rods, live music, craft beer, distilleries and good local food - all in historic downtown Boerne, Texas. This show has been going for 35 years and was previously named the 'Key to the Hills' I am part of a group that was asked to take it over by the City of Boerne. We have opened up the years, but are still focused on getting as many traditional hot rods out as we can. Sad to see that show opened up to newer vehicles and motorcycles!! They aren’t Rods!!! RIP Lanne Brehmer
Earlier this year, we received a request from the city of Beorne to ***ume responsibility for hosting this event's time slot. The previous "Key to the Hills" event had maintained a strong focus on showcasing pre-1948 "Street Rods." While this resonated with some, it failed to capture the interest of many traditional hot rod enthusiasts like us. Moreover, the popularity of street rods has gradually waned since its zenith in the 1980s and 1990s, leading to declining attendance and financial setbacks for the organizers. We embarked on this venture without any financial support from the prior organizers, any prior year attendee lists, or ***istance. Our approach is entirely fresh, thus the adoption of a new name. It's important to note that we don't typically align ourselves with the "car show" culture; rather, we accepted this challenge with a mixture of excitement and apprehension. Our true p***ion lies in uniting fellow car enthusiasts and making meaningful contributions to our community. Our vision from the outset was to evolve the event, departing from its existing format. Our goal is to expand its scope to encomp*** a broader spectrum of vehicles, attracting a younger demographic and, ideally, bolstering attendance to ensure the event's financial viability. In addition to this shift, we've curated a variety of food and drink offerings and family-friendly attractions, ensuring an enjoyable experience for all attendees. We acknowledge that this evolution may not sit well with long-standing attendees focused on pre-48 car exclusivity. We urge you to keep an open mind about the inclusion of other car types. It's worth acknowledging that not everyone can afford a pre-48 vehicle; some may prefer to showcase their restored cars or traditional hot rods. We, in turn, admire the dedication and skill that goes into various types of builds, and we're enthusiastic about building participation a**** the younger generation. If your heart yearns for a faithful recreation of the old Key to the Hills event, stay home and reminisce. However, if you share our appreciation for a community, a broad range of American cars, and the prospect of meeting new connections, we extend a warm invitation to join us in Boerne on October 14th.
