This seat had a new set of factory covers installed on a fresh restoration of a car. The work was performed in Colorado. The guy bought the car from them and had them do the restoration. The rest of the car looks pretty good. It was up on a lift. With lots of new parts installed.

Holy cow, Stan. And I thought the gorilla hair on my '55's floors was bad.

What work beyond the cover up was done? Looks like the frame was found “in a riverbed”.

I`m guessing the seat was from a donor car. No attempt was done to fix the structural frame of the seat.

  10. Yikes!! I never dreamed a seat frame would rust out like that. Like AVater said, I wonder if it spent time submerged?

  11. Identical cars in the workshop or own private collection. Hey , "lets swap seats out and keep the good one for myself " at***ude . Would,nt be the first time.

I was going to ask if that was done in a professional trim shop because I am somewhat shocked they found someone who would even agree to do it. If the 'resto shop' did it themselves, well that tells its own story.

I didn't know a seat was considered a "crumple zone"

Jesus....what was the name of the upholsterer, Ray Charles? Looks like the only thing that held the frame together was the Weldwood.

My ability at upholstery is not even an ability. I’m limited to cutting foam, getting the air stapler out and making a comfy shop stool to sit on. But I’d never waste the 30 minutes it takes me to do that on rotten wood.
I’m ***uming it was brought in to you by the owner after he actually sat in the seat or drove it for a period of time and “something doesn’t seem right”?

    ^^^ this is why I don't do upholstery^^^
I'll leave uncovered seat frames open so the REAL upholstery guy can see what he's working with

Yeah, frame's bad. But how did the new cover look? Where's the 'before' pix?

It's possible the shop contracted out the upholstery. The shop should be contacted for an explanation, and or, a warning of what happened.

After having the car shipped here. The owner drove it once and can`t remember sitting that low in the seat when the owned one similar back in the 70`s. The guy who took the seat out wondered why it flexed so much when carrying it. The seat didn`t look to bad with the covers on it. Also he couldn`t remember it steering that hard either. Soo, it was in a local shop getting power steering.
