Not sure if I should post these photos of the floor issues on my '54 Ranch Wagon here. But it sounds like Danny is starting on the road to recovery so here goes. I figure they might provide a pick me up for him knowing the long process to redo Brenda's Ranch Wagon was behind him. The photos of what all he did and the advice he's passed on along the way have certainly helped me in my project. Thanks Danny and we're all looking forward to your full recovery. floor1.jpg floor2.jpg floor3.jpg

    Hello,

Glad you are feeling better. Plenty of rest and lots of naps... that sounds good to me. Here is something I had prepared to show case tomorrow. But, due to the impending hurricane results and current path of travel, we may not have power. It is trying to come up the coast but the cold water is keeping it inline like most storm tracks. By this time, most swirling storms go across the Baja peninsula and/or blow out. Others take the path of least resistance and head for warmer waters out in the Pacific Ocean only to blow out. But, enjoy a little bit of drag racing history...

I have my favorite 1959-60 drag racing films I recorded as a teenager. Since I did not have my driver’s license back then, I was the maintenance guy and pits mechanic between rounds. I also was given the job of filming my brother racing the 280 hp 348 1958 Chevy Impala during timing runs and eliminations.

But, I also got to select my own favorites and film those, too. Over the years since, they have always been “silent films.” The reel to reel tape recorder was too heavy and bulky to use and I would have also had to have a huge battery pack to keep it running. So, that was out. The real Hollywood style sound cameras were too expensive, so I was relegated to use a point and shoot 16mm color movie camera.

Over the years, I recorded/transferred some films to VHS and added some sound. It was too difficult to cut and paste, without the studio grade editing machines. Remember, there was no digital editing programs as yet.

Then the digital age hit us like a brick and now, I had some way to get original sounds from the dragstrip action from my LP Record Album I bought in 1959 of real recorded sounds from Detroit U.S. Nationals. Some So Cal racers trekked back there to race others for the national titles.

Here are two of my 1959 film clips with the added real sounds coming from the actual racers in September 1959. They seem to fit the edited films from my editing folder.

Junior Thompson B/Gas Studebaker Sedan McCullogh supercharged SBC Filmed at Lion’s Dragstrip in spring/summer 1959. The sound is from September 1959 in Detroit. Digital wonders allowed me to put them together… check out the matching sound with the shifting protocols.

The Sidewinder of Paul Nicolini and Joe Mailliard hit the west coast with a fury in late 57. After Joe Mailliard’s Shop and expertise came into the scene, the winning streak all over the So Cal scene took precedence. We saw them in the pits and racing almost every weekend. Plus, Joe Mailliard’s Speed Shop was a few blocks from our Westside of Long Beach house.

  27. This is one of the best "car show threads" in recent memory. It kinda shows @HOTRODPRIMER 's influence. Thanks for starting it, @-Brent- .
