I've been wading through the Chevy 4 banger thread, been at it for days, so much inspiration!
I'm about half way through the 80 pages!

These looks alright - I will see if they have them. haven't found anything in the same size that matches the good old Firestone I run on the rear/

Haha I'll let you know for sure!
I was nearly inspired to jam a 28 Chev head onto my A, unless @Jimmy B has a spare Olds head for me! Hahaha :D

They use Blockleys at the track, I'm considering a pair of 18's for my RPU

Was messin with an airflow simulation today, and so will be turning my choke horns so that the airflow doesn’t crowd into the intermediate circuit. With my horns turned toward the rear bout 75% of the air is directed to the intermediate side of the carb, turning them inline with the bodies should balance the flow to both circuits. Pretty obvious that straight choke horns would have a far more laminar flow, but the 90 deg horns have “the look”. I don’t suspect that I will notice a difference in how it runs, but it can’t hurt

Those carbs look great! & Facinating how simple changes can make a difference & then how much or little that effects the way a car runs.

What would be a good compression reading for a Riley 2Port. I had looked at an engine that had 70-85 PSI, in # 1,2 & 4, and had 50 PSI in #3. Oil in cylinders pumped it up 5 PSI per cylinder.

#3 is low and I guess I would do a cylinder leak down check to see where it is going? Past a valve or rings into the crankcase....the others are good in my mind....

    4 banger related?

  16. Yes, Speedweek was a week ago.
We did not go, it flooded the week prior to the scheduled event.
The SCTA held out and ran a shortened program starting Tuesday.
From the live feeds, there were some records set.
You can search up the livefeeds and some recordings.
SpeedDemon won the HotRod trophy, I think around 332 mph, someone might have better intel.

It sure looks like ElMirage had some rain today, still 3 weeks to event though.
I won't be there, work has me traveling.

There were 3 V4 records set in the banger classes as shown below.

Driving to the course from land's end was through 2-3" of water, pits were damp with puddles.
It did look like they were going to manage to have a 5 mile timed course on Tuesday (8 miles total) until the wind switched direction on Monday night and blew the water to the east which resulted in the first two miles not being useable.

Did someone try to balance this “B” crank? I assume it didn’t have that many holes drilled on the counterweights when new. Should I keep it? IMG_3946.jpeg

Looks pretty normal to me. Those appear to be factory balance holes. What size are the journals? Did you have it magnafluxed?

I have not measured the journals yet. This crank came out of the engine that was in my truck. I’m hoping that the block checks out. I already have 2 counterbalanced cranks on the shelf and another in a running engine. This crank is just extra right now.

I’m slowly gathering parts to build an OHV engine or at least hopes of.

Who makes the extended shafts for the distributors? These are for engines with the Cragar or Riley Overhead valve set ups.

Not that I’m aware of. I had heard that there was an attempt at one time, but don’t think it was finished before the magazine was discontinued.

In fact, I don’t even think the Secrets has been done as well. I know Charlie has started a Digital Version but I don’t believe that they are all available in one place.

Back to the BV records . . . you can run Gas in the Fuel classes and call it Fuel.

If you can set the Gas Record and the Fuel Record in a class -- more power to you!

I was wondering why the Gas & Fuel Records were so close. Is that what happened in this case? I

For fuel class, pretty sure all you have to do is break the seal on the tank, spit in tank and change the class designation
on the side of the car- change the "G" to an "F".

I would almost put money on it being a valve not sealing or not adjusted right...

Or give it a shot of whiskey in the fuel tank.
