32 Ford Roadster w/Brookville body - Ran into an issue with mounting my license plate the way I had planned - through bolt the slots at the top and put bumpers on the backside of the bottom holes for support. Sounds simple, until you remove the drip tray and find that there's no way to get to the back-side of the rear valance (or whatever it is the OG Henry guys officially call it). That's a photocopy of my license plate for fit up purposes... And one have any ideas ?
Me to. I've done this so many times I've lost count, both on roadsters and coupes. I've used 1/4 inch nutserts for years. I've used the steel ones but the aluminum one would also work.
Another vote for riv nuts. I like to put some paint or sealer in the hole before securing the nut to make sure there won't be a rust issue.
‘32 Texas plates are an odd size so I made a bracket to mount it but I used Rivnuts to attach the bracket.
What are you doing for a license plate light? That may affect location and mounting style choices. Rivet nuts are a great way to go. Here’s a couple snaps of recent builds that I used rivnuts on. Did exactly the same plate light on both of them (quick and dirty, but worked). Need to do something a little nicer on the current roadster build (still thinkin on it).
Rivnuts are dead simple as many have posted. AND there is a reason many of us say to MOCK UP the entire car BEFORE anything. By the time the OP gets this car ready for paint, EVERY hole should be drilled for EVERY part of the car. Then it is just bolting it together
Rap it around on of the exhaust pipes and tack weld it mount it like a bike https://www.ebay.com/itm/2720501432...FlfnhVz3F5v_NxEP8TgNIywd_0schxUhoCYlwQAvD_BwE
On my 3 window Avatar and several highboy sedans I used 33/34 taillights on 32 stands mounted in the stock spot on the frame horns. When I do this I use the aluminum mounts that attach to the spreader bar.
