I was heading to SW MO to try to catch up with an old timer to record his life history, unfortunately, the person that was sending me on this mission didn't get ahold of me until the gentleman was in hospice care and communication was difficult. I figured IF he wants to meet me and have me document his story, if I'm in Joplin I'm less than an hour away and if I'm at home I'm 4 hours away so why not head to the drags and see if he calls back. I got to the event at about 11am, it's awesome to see that some version of our beloved HAMB Drags is still going as the Spam drags but it was disappointing to see the turn out was low. I hope to see more cars (and more importantly more of you folks) out there next time! Here's what I saw: Unfortunately, the gentleman that I was supposed to interview, Mr. JimVerden, passed away Friday night. Godspeed sir, sorry I never got to hear your story.
Sorry to hear about Mr. Verden. As for the Drags, I think the forecast of triple digit temps kept a lot of folks away. Turned out to be not so terrible as we had a nice breeze all day and all kinds of cool hot rods making passes. Thanks for documenting our little get together and thanks to Carl and his gang for putting up with our shenanigans for 20 years. -Abone.
I knew Jim well but due to my situation I didn’t know he was ill R.I.P. Jim he sure had a bunch of greet stories and had been around a lot I wondered why I hadn’t seen him around in awhile I just assumed it was due to my own health issues it was great to see you Travis and thanks for all you do and have done to promote our hobby
