In '62, I had a very rapid '56 Ford, discovered Goodies Speed Shop had cards of black line drawings of car silhouettes about 1.5" long. They were called 'Kill Decals'. Goodies owner Rich Guess joked with me that I probably had more than I could use. I had 2 staggered stacks of Chevy shoeboxes on the short wing, (drivers side only!) but ran out of room, so they drooled down the door, all in neat rows. There were a lot. I bought some Ford ones, always kept one in the glove box to hand out to someone...(of MINE) 'just in case!) Anybody remember these? Getting my '54 Ford coupe ready, may need some...
Haven't seen those in a long while. I'm thinking Big Wille(from the NY Street Racing Brotherhood deal) also advertised those in HR or somesuch... Marcus... PS: maybe you need to recreate them? . & some using current silhouettes(for OT business interests)? .
Thanks, Muttley; There were also some silhouettes-style done in solid black. ~ '57chev, '57ford, vw bug, I think even a cop-car w/the light rack, & a few more(from the era when you could ID a mfgr a half a block away). Thinking they were advertised in the small-mags(mid 50's -> mid 60's?) & also in JCWhitney(maybe into the late 70's ->early 80's?). Haven't seen these for decades, either. But I always did wonder: just what does a guy w/a black car do besides put them on the rear side window? . Stealth-mode? . Marcus... Another set to replicate... . Waterslide decals? Quite an industry in modeling. Good info out there. . Or later style decals like the early60's -> late 70's? . Home-printing on computer/printer? There is(was) a guy that carries copies of old decals, that vends at some of the larger shows, but I don't remember seeing kill decals at his booth. Go for it, Mike. .
I've never seen the "kill decals" for sale, but back in the 60's or 70's a friend had a fast car and he simply used the typical group of 5 hash marks to his front fender for each win in street races. After a lot of marks on his front fender, most people figured out what all those were.
Yeah, I've got a copy of that ad too but I can't locate it in my files. The cars had the manufacturers name on them and the police car said 'Fuzz'.
