I bought this one from a swap meet here in April for $15. I like old club plaques, but wont collect them just because they're overpriced. Maybe I should consider selling this one if they get the kind of money posted on this thread!

Oh, believe me that it's already been happening for awhile. I've see some really bad tries at duplicating foundry marks and the seller advertising them as "Estate Finds".

    Caveat Emptor.

You are so correct when it comes to bidding on something you know nothing about.

With this old, low production stuff, it would be really tough to prove fraud if you received a plaque that looked fishy. The big money will attract the fish mongers.

  5. I guess it's like people say, things are only worth what people pay for them. I guess if people buy them for $400 people are gonna sell them for that much. Still seems insane to me though.

I was gonna buy one of those reproductions from O'Brien, as they have a few from old defunct clubs in my area, but $40 is no small change (for me anyway).

So I just decided to make my own. And as shoddy as it looks, it was free. There's only 2 members anyway.

I'll clean it up a bit before I put it on the car (without the "head jackass" title ha ha)

I can't believe this one, if it's real. Why would this be worth that much money?

    Wanderers-9049.JPG

And why would there be a SW PA chapter of a Central CA club? Looks like that was added after it was cast.

  10. That my friend is called trolling, he is fishing and hoping he gets a offer, did you notice the plaque is new? HRP

guess that they are like most everything, only worth what someone is willing to pay - like watching the crazy world of car auctions, some prices are way beyond any form of reality

I agree. I'm posting these as I see them to keep everyone aware of what some of these are worth to someone. Some are recasts and some look to be original.

There are currently several really nice original Southern California area plaques for sale on eBay and I'm guessing some of them will also go for big money.

A car club plaque should be property of the club and returned to the club if you leave.

That's a good idea, unless the member bought and paid for the plaque themselves. That would make it property of the member. Also, a lot of folks collect that stuff. Most of the plaques are not for sale by the original owner/member. It's usually someone who inherited it or found it at a garage sale. I say, Let the collectors have em'.

I was in a club and I paid for my plaque with the understanding that it became the property of the club. This was done to keep the posers away and part of the dues to be paid. I’m no longer part of that club and I had no beef returning my plaque, for me it was about honoring my word.

Well, if you gave your word that you would return it upon leaving, then it needed to be returned, but that is not always the case. Different clubs, different rules.

Assorted Nuts is one guy one plaque. It doesn’t matter how many vehicles you have. Once you pay for it it’s yours. Snowman ⛄️

  25. Well if you're thread has done anything it has provided links to find records of a local club that I had been unable to find. I'll probably buy a repop of this Screenshot_20231029-160243.png

I recently received a photo of a plaque for the Satan’s Chauffeurs from Dallas. He also sent a photo of the back side that has this cast into the plaque ...

Anyone know of this club and what the K2023(Triangle) means?

I was ready to fight to the death with nail studded bats to get my Dads .

    My uncle has another one.
    My cousin should get someday
I have seen one other on the internet in a data base for plaques.

Most of its members went to Tomales HS in CA. around 1957 or so.

Doubt it's worth much to a most.
No forging marks or any of that .
I know it's a original as I have been looking at it in his garage since 1963.

I plan on sticking it on my 28 A PU He built . My fear is someone stealing it. 20231217_144252.jpg
