Hey guys, Anyone know Jay Wentz or anyone at Wentz Motor Co? Looks like they've gone belly up and unfortunately run off with my new chassis deposit.
Nothing on Facebook for over a year. Did you pay by credit card? We need a lot more of this story to help you, although 2 posts in 12 years does make you the quiet type.
Where's Wentz located? Maybe you could find a HAMB member in the area that could check if they're still in business. The last post on Facebook I could find was May of 2022. They have an active website and their phone appears to be hooked up. I did notice on their site several of the chassis pictures are right out of the P&J's catalogue/website. The last time I asked Jason at P&J's he said about a 14 week lead time and I was at R Jay's last week and he was about the same. If it's a significant amount of money a road trip might be in order? Good Luck
Not much on line regarding this company. The satellite photo on Google Earth looks unpromising.. Ho did you find out about these guys? https://earth.google.com/web/search...qnA8mBNEAR_7qnA8mBNMAZwn-x1dxkRkAhqRCvl9evTMA
Wouldn't be the first guy, who took a bunch of deposits and lived large on the money and didn't have the money to buy the materials or pay workers to build the product. I'm not saying that is what happened but have seen it happen. Scroll down to the fourth and fifth listings, this might help in tracking him down. Jay Wentz — OfficialUSA.com Records
Thanks everyone. I've tried every number and email I could find to no avail. Yep seems like a lawyer and a road trip is in order for sure. I've found Jay's place of residence so I think I'll start there. Apologies for being quiet 5window. I spend my spare time building hot rods/car and trucks and am more of a lurker on the sight. Absolutely love the sight and will try to contribute more in the future.
If he owns the property the business in located on talk to a lawyer and see if you can put a lien on it. Just a thought.
I think when an LLC is formed, all financial liability and assets are property of the LLC and not an individual. The CEO/COO has no financial responsibility. That’s kinda what I remember from HS business class, then again I graduated in ‘79 so details would be sketchy from my memory.
It looks like almost 1200 miles from Houston to Danville. That would be a costly trip with about 30 hours of driving Perhaps some hard-nosed, but not necessarily violent, persuasive local HAMBer who maybe was an attorney, could check the lay of the land for you? I hope your deposit was small. What are you building?
This is generally the case, but if fraud was involved and the guy mixed business funds for personal use and then absconded the courts can hold the member(s) of the LLC liable. The attorney cost for this legal action would probably exceed whatever he put down as a deposit, however, and not guaranteed to succeed.
