Hey HAMB. This place has always been a great source for information that’s been impossible to find anywhere else. SO- I have messaged the Salinas “guru” Rod Powell and came up a lil short. I am looking for any History on the “Lacey Body Shop” of 1950’s Salinas CA. The owner was Verne Lacey. I have even talked with Verne’s daughter who really had no information other then he was into hot rods and customs. Any Pictures/ receipts or anything would be greatly appreciated. THANKS
Is it the same family that owned lacies. ( Lacey's) machine shop on Broadway in Seaside? I never paid attention to the spelling, just knew where it was
Look up David Alamos. He’s in Oakdale somewhere, I knew his son, lost touch. But Davis was into ‘32 Fords, don’t think he was a hotrod guy, but I think his son told me David had a dairy in Salinas, then went to like Los Banos. David would be near 80 now, may have recollection of the place. I’ve no contact info, just a possible name. Now it could be I remember incorrectly, but a lead might be a lead.
Vern did the customizing on this Buick in the 50`s. It was never finished. Bought by the late Harold Olson and finished by Rod in the early to mid 80`s.
We all know this car from Andy Southards book. He wrote it was originally owned by Verne. I believe it was chopped and shaved by Verne. Lots of cool customization on the car and hopefully can find more pics. I have even talked to Verne’s daughter and she said they don’t have anything. Was trying to find more pics of this coupe…
YUP!! So lots stand out after studying that pic. trying to find more pics of that car. It might even be blue in any other pics…
