Art & Inspiration Let's see some rattle can excellence

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 57chevymadman, Aug 20, 2023.

  1. We all know the outcome of pro paintwork, now let's see some rattle can excellence, doesn't need to be the entire car lol, just some designs, hopefully lace, fades, candy....

With candy, flake and 2k clear available in a rattle can, it makes it a bit more easier to do for someone who doesn't get into painting on a pro level.

Firewall is all rattle canned primer and paint. Just like a spray gun it’s all about good wet overlaps. 4AA2BC98-D63E-40B1-9F16-970F213A293B.jpeg

Duplicolor lacquer primer (lots of repeat recoating/blocking)(was a cut up firewall I welded back together) and Krylon finish.
This didn’t happen over night. All that primer needed to gas out first.

    Firewall turned out real nice.
I used (a bunch) of Duplicolor self etching primer on the roll bar in my Nova with Krylon semi flat black, I'm pleased with the outcome, seems durable.
Thinking the dust will help protect it.

If you like red, the red paint in spray cans from Case IH farm tractor dealers goes on nice and is tough. My boat tail project will get farm equipment paint but I haven't deided on the color.

I don't use the cans much, but I did recently paint the wood that goes between the steel substructure and the deck planks on my 41 Ford PU bed. The deck boards will be stained and varnished (Spar) but these are mostly hidden unless you are prowling around under my truck looking for a catalytic converter to saw off.

I used a paste wood filler to seal the grain in this red oak, sanded and applied Satin Black Krylon, about 3 full cans. After drying I cleared in a 3X clear varnish in a rattle can.

All that crap on the floor is the paste wood filler I sanded off and knocked through the holes.

Cheapo Walmart gloss black, didn't even upgrade to krylon. When I get the fenders banged out they will get Rust-Oleum gloss black from the gallon can.

well everything on my Turtledeck T so far has been rustoleum products, other than the header paint.

Barring my non-attempt at bodywork, it turned out well

    color is french lilac

I also painted my last coupe with, I think... krylon?

And to prove that I can do bodywork and fancy stuff, my highschool driver before I chopped it, had this sweet Lace/ Endless line/ Candy fade.

It was based with krylon flat black, then krylon baby blue, covered in various model car lacquer paints

I was really proud of that roof.

Here's my "2 stage" paint job. Grey is Krylon, red is Rustoleum .Sprayed on my patio. Didn't want overspray in the garage. Many coats, lots of sanding between. In all honesty it did receive color sanding and clear coat. 20220924_140850.jpg
